I’ve been delegated the task of getting all the gajras/corsages/boutennierres for the baraat party at my sister’s wedding. Ready-made desi-style flower jewellery isn’t widely available where I live and getting the prom-type corsages for all the baraat members is ridiculously expensive!
Does anyone have any experience in ordering fresh flowers and making your own flower jewellery? It’s for the baraat day so obviously has to be a bit fancy…any ideas? Suggestions?
I’ve done it several times. Mostly used roses and carnations for the garlands.
I’ve also done gajras for the hair using roses and stephanotis since at the time this was the only white, fragrant flower that I could order that was similar to what we use back home.
What kind of suggestions are you looking for?
Never done any corsages…but done lots of boutonnieres. They are really quite easy to do if you invest in the proper tools and equipment.
I'm talking about things like the green floral tape......it's a staple to keep things neat.
If you want to do garlands then you need the right size/type of needle that will have an eye large enough to handle the string.
You need string strong enough to withstand the weight of the flowers, etc, etc.
It can all be done with regular needles and thread but the process is difficult and things tend to break.
