Wedding favours

It’s common that once the nikah is done the boys side hand out some sort of sweet/favour to the guests.

What is usually put in these favours aside from nuts/dried fruit or dates? What are the asian sweets called? (e.g. the spikey white one, the square shaped clear one, the round one coated in sesame seeds etc)

Or is it best to put in something different (e.g. chocolate buttons, fudge, toffees etc)

Hellpppp

Re: Wedding favours

i would put in chocolate but there is always the risk it will melt. I LOVE ferrero rocher's so those are good to put in and the foil lining usually prevents them from melting too much.

as for asian sweets, well aren't they a bit big to be putting in favour bags or boxes? the names are burfi (square or rectangular white one - very sweet :P) ladoo (yellow ones) gulab jaman (smaller, round balls)

I would also put in little gifts (be careful for choking hazards for kids) like a ring or a small necklace for the more special guests. :)

Dried date (chuhara) is usually a must. Besides that, it is up to you what to put or not. Fresh asian sweets are usually not included in favour bags because they have small life. Things which can be preserved are included like chocolates, marzipan, coated almonds, cashews, fudges, caramels, toffees, m&ms, etc. You can also include any fancy confectionary which can be preserved as these favour are packed a day or two before the function. There are many asian sweets (mithai). Most popular ones are gulab jamun, barfi, paira, laddo, qalaqand, ras gulla, chum chum etc. You can google them, u will find their pics... but as I said before, they are usually not included in the wedding favour bags in pakistan. You can, of course, pack them separately and give them to you guests.

Re: Wedding favours

Thanks for your replies guys... by 'asian sweets' for favour bags I meant the stuff that you give out at the time of the nikkah (dried dates, little sugary sweets etc) not mithai. We plan to get those gift cases of mithai and hand mithai out alongside the gift bags, but the mithai won't be going in the gift bags (I hope that makes sense)

I like the idea of chocolate going in to the bags and I also love sugared almonds so will try to get hold of those too. Do you think it's OK to put a mix of things in the bag or is it best to stick to one type of sweet?

Re: Wedding favours

i think mix is ok, i've come across those mini easter eggs in wedding favours too. love eating those! the hard shell on the outside usually prevents the choc from melting. as Ashy said above chuara is also common and those hard round sweet balls with aniseed on the outside... i think they are called revri or something like that. once i went to a wedding where the wedding favour also contained a packet of that naaz supari stuff. i hadn't had one of those for ages. hope this helps :)

Mix of stuff is a better idea as you will give loads of variety to your guests. In Pakistan traditional stuff is quite common like chuhara, Misri, sugar balls etc. However, innovation is being done and individually and beautifully wrapped chocolates, marzipan, coated nuts are also being included. I personally love the idea of beautifully wrapped chocolates like gold coin shaped chocolates, individually wrapped truffles, jelly beans, heart shaped marshmallows etc...
