wedding dress dilemma

For so many of my friends I have been able to help them with their outfits, customize things and what not. Now it’s finally my turn and nothing is standing out. I went to a local store in town and tried on a lovely bridal so I think I know somewhat of the shape I want and I know my colors but the rest is up in the air.

Friends have advised me to just go to Pakistan this winter and shop instead of placing a bridal order. I’m getting married inshallah in Feb. 2013. I wonder would that be enough time to go back home, fall in love with some outfit and get them to customize the colors and work on the dress to my liking? Can anyone offer some advice to me and have any of you past brides been in this weird “nothing stands out to me” mindset that I am currently in?

I appreciate your help with this thank you!

Re: wedding dress dilemma

i suggest going through this forum and gathering ideas. you need to place an order soon because it takes a few months to complete your dress. once you look at pictures and get ideas, shopping there will be a bit easier.

Re: wedding dress dilemma

Hey, I can completely understand how ur feeling!! I'm getting married in April 2013 inshallah, and for months nothing was standing out to me, at least u know what colours u want I had absolutely no idea, but after literally going thru 100's of pages particularly in the "bridal pics" section i managed to find something that was very different...something that stood out.

However, i'm still in a dilemma for the walima outfit, just can't decide on anything be it the design or colours :( so still looking with hope, And just like u I'm actually going to pak around 5 weeks before my wedding so I really need to know EXACTLY what i want; design, colour, everything, so i can literally jump off the plane and place my order coz i really won't have the time to look around and then decide on something. Even 5 weeks is really pushing it but hopefully should be able to get my outfits ready in time.

So yea my suggestion to u would be to have a clear mindset of what u want BEFORE u go, the choice and vast quantity of designs that can be found online these days can no way be found in real so hopefully u'l find something that u like (And so will i), Good luck xx

Re: wedding dress dilemma

Yes def been there! I was looking for a dress 2 yrs ago, and I felt like nothing really stood out. And I wanted to really fall in love w something. Have you looked through all the photos in the bridal pics thread? And designer runway photos? Do it! You'll find a good few outfits to love. As you go along save every picture you like, color combo, cut, kaam, design, whatever. Then narrow down from there for.
You should place an order soon though, cause it takes some time to process, produce, and deliver. And you don't want the stress of last minute dress deliveries!!

Re: wedding dress dilemma

Re: wedding dress dilemma

i went through the same! at the end of the day the dress i picked didn't even really stand out to me, but i kind of know my body so I felt like it would really suit me(more than the original girl wearing the dress lol). i felt like it incorporated some trends but would still be timeless iA

Re: wedding dress dilemma

I couldn’t find a single dress that was completely standing out to me, just a feature in each dress, and in the end I settled on a dress that wasn’t even that special :bummer: I went to Pakistan in October, picked my dresses on the first day I got there, which was the 18th. And my dresses aren’t going to be ready till 15th January, and then it’ll take a couple of days for them to be shipped over. I feel like everything is going to be soooo rushed. My wedding is in March :teary1:

I've had some problems with mine. Ordered dress as I loved the design. Was their own work so thought my order was fool proof but I actually can't look at the pics of my dress. Should be arriving in next week or so. Keeping myself in bliss ignorance and busy with work til I see it. If you're ordering online it may be best to bear in mind the final outcome may not be identical to what you chose, I may have dealt with it better if I'd allowed for this. Not that I agree with it cos if you've paid for a product it should be as per your specs. Good luck!

Wow I thought I posted twice and deleted everything I wrote. Basically I need to take back everything I said. I received my bridal yesterday and I absolutely love it. It surpassed my original expectations (from the pic I loved) by miles. I cannot believe how beautiful it is and I sincerely mean that. I never imagined that it could ever look as beautiful as it does and ever wearing something this lovely. I need to say a huge thankyou to Arsalan from FBP (kingme) and this forum too as otherwise I never would've found him. He was so attentive, reasonable and so patient even after I had a spaz attack last week after I saw the pics. They absolutely did the outfit no justice at all. I cannot believe I have my bridal sat at home now and cant wait to wear it, I received it 5 weeks after ordering. I can't thank Arsalan enough. I will put pics up later when I have a day off. It was a big leap of faith I took doing it but Arsalan proved himself in every way and will be sure to order again from him. I never expected to ever love my dress as much as I do and I'm so grateful he made this happen for me. I've always only wanted a dress I like and be ok with anything else RE the wedding and I have better than I ever thought. Wish you all the best with yours. Would def recommend but know its scary to place such a big order without seeing it in person. Feel free to ask anything if u need to.

Re: wedding dress dilemma

Fatimah, could you please provide the contact details of Arsalaan. Also, I am curious to look at your dress. Would it be possible for you to post the pictures of the dress or the original pictures that actually inspired you. I am also in the process of choosing a design for my dress and ordering it online and can’t seem to set my mind on one.

Re: wedding dress dilemma

@Humie, I think many of us go through that same feeling. Nothing feels "good enough" or unique enough when it comes to our own wedding... so don't feel alone! :)

If it's a possiblity for you, I would definitely recommend going to Pakistan. The variety in Pakistan is incomparable to what we see in the "West"! The best advice I have for you: keep in mind a few colours for your day and the style/kaam of outfit you want but keep an open mind. If you're too picky about what you want, you might not get your outfit in time for the wedding. This is based on my own personal experience.

I live in Canada and went to Karachi for 3.5 weeks and brought back ALL my clothes - this includes my main bridal outfits, my jahaiz, and my entire family's outfit (we're 3 girls plus my mom.. sooo alot of clothes!). Basically, I knew what I wanted but I had a "must have" list... things that I wouldn't compromise on but everything else was up in the air.
SO, example:
- Wedding: I wanted a red gharara purple accents and very BAREEK kaam. I knew that the overall look I wanted was to look traditional and yet elegant (nothing too heavy)

This made it easier for me. I did look at ALOT of outfits and had moments when I panicked and thought "OMG! I'm not going to find anything!!!" but it worked out thankfully :)

Anddd lastly, as long as you have an idea of what style will look good on your body type, I think you'll be fine and will look amazing in whatever you wear! All brides do :)

Re: wedding dress dilemma

^ sorry, didn't mean for it to be an essay! I usually can't stop blabbing once I start!!

Hi Mariam Arsalan has a fb page which you can go through hundreds of their designs. If you search for FBP that should lead you there. He's a user on this forum too I think its kingme123- or the numbers might be a bit off. Will upload pic of original as its on phone and def be uploading shots of my dress soon as I remember to take some on my phone.

I'd asked for a slightly deeper red and it had dull gold embroidery. The pic doesn't show fully how intricate and well done the embroidery actually is so will take pics of mine for you. I also chose a plum for the lining/ i cant remember the name of it maybe jamwar. But the contrast was beautiful and well matched to the red. I really would recommend without a doubt. Will be sure to get pics up soon!

Re: wedding dress dilemma

Think i’ve figured how to attach pic. This is Arsalan’s original pic that I chose and loved! Hope your search is coming along ok. Sorry if pic is rubbish quality had to resize as it was too big so reduced it alot. Original cab be found on the FBP fb page

Re: wedding dress dilemma

its nice, how much did u pay for it ?

Re: wedding dress dilemma

fatimah, it looks very very nice, I love the kaam and I must say thats a very reasonable price, too good to be true price.

His own pics are not very nice but yours look better.

iA you will look lovely! :-) looking forward to your bridal pics, that is if u will share.

Re: wedding dress dilemma

Aww thankyou I did mention to him his pics don't do his work justice. That was the reason I thought my outfit was ruined in the first place lol. I will in future bear in mind the pics not being totally accurate! After taking the leap of faith in placing the order and seeing first hand exactly what he delivers I really would only order from him and a few designers on here that have the reviews already. His price was def reasonable and I really wish I had better pics that capture the dress properly but only got cam on phone. Will be sure to try and get more pics up soon as I get time. Thankyou though and will def get pics up soon as it's over and done with :)

Re: wedding dress dilemma

Good of u to share before the wedding alot of brides dont share pics at all or wait until it's all over.
