Take one day at a time. First, for the baraat decide the style you are going for--modern, contemporary, or traditional. Then try to decide what color you would like to wear. Would you like to be the traditional red/gold bride on the wedding day? After you have decided the look then go on to the cut of the dress; do you see yourself wearing a lengha, gharara, farshi gharara or some other modern cuts whose names I dont really know.......
Once you have an idea of what you want to look like on day 1, go on and think about day two. Would you like the stay in the "warm" color family or go on to the cool colors? Light color or dark color. Again, something traditional or something modern. Would you stick to a dress (gharara/sharara/lengha) or do you want to wear something funky like a pant suit or a pretty sari on the valima?
After you've thought about your look, now decide where you would the dress to be made according to your budget. A designer dress, designer knock-off or something from a favorite shop at the bazaar.
i know r3aziz, its such a tough part. i mean really im goin thru the same exact thing that u've written need to finalize my weddin dress too but just too confused..... i mean just can't decide if its the one that will make me look good on My big day, its our day and want to look the best :)

wenz the wedding?
Firstly where are you based? Are you going abroad for your shopping, ie UK to Pakistan. You need to research all the shops in the area you will be looking in and visit every single one over a few days, to see what choices you have, even if you like something, you can always go back to it - the idea is to see everything you can get hold of. I went everywhere before I made my decision and what i initially had in mind to waer on both days, it turned the complete opposite, so go with an open mind and willing to try new colours and designs.
I’m getting married in Oct 2008 in Pakistan and i live in the uk. I will be going 3 weeks before my wedding so it will be impossible for me to get one made from there. I’m not even going to risk looking at ready-made ones there in case i dont like something.
So i have decided to get one made from here in the UK.
I do have my styles sorted ; for bharat i definately want a traditional pakistani look - a ghara with long kameez, something like the pic below. I definately dont want red - more a combination maybe emerald green and pink/wine colour.
For Walima i want to go very modern with skirt and trail. I have no idea what colour or embroidery to go for.
Pick out the colors you'd want to wear for each day and the combo's u think would work well. How about a dark wine/amethyst for the first day and aqua/peach/watermelon color the next day if you want 2 entirely diff looks.
i went to pakistan for 4 weeks and got my lengha's made in 2 weeks, my advice is to save your money, you won't get anything decent in the UK, if your going Pakistan you might as well get one from there the choice is amazing and out of this world, all the pics on these threads are lenghas from pakistan and the one you have posted is from a designer. The choice in the UK is very limited and months behind in fashion, if you go to a high end boutique in the UK you will end up paying double for what you would get in Pakistan, plus they send it there to get made too and it takes twice as long.
Your wedding dresses are the main purchases and i think if you go to pakistan, you'll be amazed and may regret purchasing something in the UK. The craftmanship is amazing and they don't use the plastic beads and crystals on your lenghas like the indian lenghas, which are the majority of lenghas we have in the UK.
I dont agree!!
I was in southall on saturday the designs all come from India and are stunning..just check out jaan at punjab textiles and daminis and loads and loads more shops lik tht best palces are London- Green st, southall Birmingham-Ladypool rd, alum rock rd and stratford road and soho road, Bradford- Bombay Bazaar, Manchester Cheetham hill..shoppin is so much fun here but if money is an issue then DEFO go pakistan ive been wedding shopping in both places and Pak is really good aswell..the best thing is hte price plus they do everything for you..like matching jewellery and shoes and all tht it is so much less stressful..its up to you either way dress shopping is great fun :) im in two minds myself as my sis bought hers from UK but my other sister got hers from Pak so im still deciding!
in my view, and i think most guppies who have been here for ages will agree pakistan beats india hands down in bridal fashion! The quality of work, style, elegance and cuts are to die for. The UK has finally clicked onto this and are now creating r/ships with designers in Pakistan to sell there bridals here, for eg, HSY, Maria B, Nickie and Nina, Tanzeen Hasan and Sumblime by Sara - are the few who have expanded to the UK with a huge price tag along with it! These designers and bridal lenghas in Pakistan can't even be compared to most of the shops in the UK. In Pakistan bridal shopping is not cheap anymore! In fact it is cheaper in the UK.
If you are going to Pakistan, then try and go to Lahore and Karachi xxx
