Hey Guys,
I was wondering if you guys could give me a few ideas regarding my wedding decor. So I’m wearing white lehenga(not bright white - a little less than off-white, a little cream whiteish) with silver kaam on it and purple borders. Fiance and I want the stage backdrop to be elegant, modern and classy, and not too loud or traditional. We both personally would love white/ivory as it looks really elegant and have some purple and silver in it. And a white seat. And I’ve seen pictures of some really nice white backdrops…but my question is - would that be okay considering I’m wearing white myself? Because I do like the look of a white/creamy stage with little purple. But should I go with it or a different colour? I’m not sure how a different colour would look as we both really do want something in shades of ivory/white. Any suggestions/advice?
Maybe we can do purple lights to brighten it up a bit. Anyway, was wondering if any of you could give suggestions/provide pics.
i think a white stage will be fine! as long as its not brighter than the white you'll be wearing. also since your jora has silver kaam on it i think panels of light grey would look very slick and will compliment the purple
ok, so i think white on white would be fabulous. you could work in grey for contrast or silver. i wouldn’t do any purple, honestly, it might be too matchy matchy. i would just keep it all white with hits of charcoal or silver and lots of white flowers, white candles, crystal, maybe work some greens into the floral arrangements. you could add possibly a tiny bit of purple in accessories like cushions on the stage or ribbons around the vases but i’d cap it at that.
Thanks for responding guys! That was my main concern - white on white. But happy to hear it won't look odd!
SGC - you think purple will be matchy matchy? The only reason I was thinking of adding more purple was since there's minimal purple on the lehenga (only borders). But I do like the sound of white, silver and grey like the both of you mentioned. So I'm going to maybe go with that. And yeah, maybe a purple cushion on a white couch maybe?
Totally disagree! I wore an off white gown with purple embroidery for my valima. We had a purple and white backdrop--it looked amazing. If I knew how to attach a picture I would!
PM me your email address and I'll send you pics if you're interested.
purple would not look matchy matchy at all! marigold is right having silver/grey and purple incorporated into your decor and stage as accent colours will make it look unique and very classy ...and it will bring out your outfit =)
i had thought purple would be a major part of your outfit in which case, yes, it would be matchy. how could it not be if you are wearing purple and sitting on a purple stage?
since purple isn't a big part of your outfit, you could probably incorporate it more into your decor without it being overdone. you can also do shades of purple, so if your outfit has lilac, go with eggplant, for example, to create some more interest.
chaisipper - I'd love to get an idea...will PM you my email address.
somegroovychick - Yeah, I should've explained better, I suppose. But that's what I meant when I said if it'd look weird with white on white as my clothes are creamy white with just borders purple. The borders are eggplant purple-ish. So lavendar can work in the backdrops and maybe even centre pieces right? Do you think that would look nicer or dark purple?
I'm just not very creative when it comes to all this. I'm hoping I can find a good decor person too who can help me out. Still looking. I was in talks with Sara Baig and was ready to go with her but she landed with another assignment that day, so now I start from point zero!
why don't you do a mix of lavender, darker purple and throw in some green's to lively it all up. it would look great with the ivory/white and silver. you could use lots of mirrors to dress it up even more, and using uplights is fantastic.
^That sounds really pretty. Esp throwing in a bit of green....but I guess I need some pictures or some sorta direction about how the drapes should look like and all.
Does anyone here live in Toronto and know of any good decor places? Apart from Sara Baig and Dream Party Decor (I find DPD's style very different from what I want).
I'll give lemon truffles a shout - thanks! Have you or someone you know ever worked with them? I want to go with someone that I know is going to organize everything on time and with responsibility! I've had a not so good experience with The Perfect Setting - which is sad ebcause I've heard they're great! My other option is Khazana Creations. But I dunno much about them either.
sorry, i'm not sure of her professionalism.. i just know of an acquaintance on my facebook who used her for her wedding. i'm sure if you meet with her you will get an idea of how professional she is. plus since she's new, she has an incentive to work hard to get her name out there
yeah i've read the same thing from others on gs about the perfect setting which is a shame since their decor is nice! i havent heard of khazana creations.. the only decor vendor i can personally vouch for is sara baig since she worked on my sisters wedding. lemon truffle seemed very similar to her in terms of style and the attention to little detail so thats why i recommended them :)
dark purple and silver/mirrors/crystals look really pretty together.
i wouldn’t worry too much about showing a picture of what you want other than certain detail images that you love because a good designer will - and should- come up with a design direction for you. after all, isnt that why you’ve hired them? i know sara usually sketches out the stage and does an inspiration board for her clients.
Okay thanks guys for all your input! Hopefully I can get a decent decor who can help me out.
Also, I'm doing centre pieces on my own. Basically just tall vases with fresh flowers. I was wondering - should I go with purple flowers, or some complimentary colour? What would look nice? I'm thinking I can have the fillers in the vase (whatever they would be, haven't decided yet) in grey/silverish shade? Does that make sense?
