Wedding clothes disaster - urgent opinions!

Hi Guys,

Im having a minor heart attack over here and need people’s honest opinions! Ive always wanted to wear a sari at my mehndi and bought one a few weeks ago.

I brought it home today and after putting it on I think it looks wrong for some reason!

plz look at my pics and I would really appreciate ppls opinions on whether it looks good or not.

Thanks

Re: Wedding clothes disaster - urgent opinions!

Why do you think it looks wrong?

I know what you mean smile 1. Some saaris can gather around your waist to make u look chubby.

Here's a pic of me wearing a saari that actually made me look like I was huge around the waist!

poof

And here's one which looks perfectly fine.

It just depends on how the saari is sown and what material it is I guess.

You saari does look like its gathered around the middle but you look pwettyyy nevertheless!!

make sure the pleating is very neat and flat before you tuck it in.. also sometimes i spread my pleats out by an inch so that it's not bunched into one bundle that make my mid section protrude.. try spreading the pleats out a little accross the front span of your waist.

Its not just about tucking the saari in or trying to make it flat... some saaris naturally give a *phoola hua *effect.

Thanks for the responses guys...

It does look quite 'floppy' in my opinion and i dont know why. ive never worn it on my head before (obv) and i dont know if thats why it looks strange.

i cant do anything about the pleats because i have had the belt sown in. do you think i should pleat it at the shoulder before putting it over my head?? or is it simply the material that has given it this 'fallen' look.

i feel really sad now :(

awwwwwwwww smileyyy :hugz: I wish I could help, but I’m not the expert here!

Re: Wedding clothes disaster - urgent opinions!

I think it's partly the way it's draped and partly that it is covering.

The glamour of a sari comes from the way it drapes over the body and showing some skin (that's why blouses usually have deep necklines). A sari isn't a fitted outfit; you don't except it to make your body look amazing by the way it fits. Then by covering the shoulder/neck/head area it completely makes everything look shapeless.

I'm really sorry I can't offer suggestions. I'm not in any way saying you should uncover though.

thanks for the comment stoppit. i understand what you mean by covering it does take the shape away...

i suppose i will have to accept it for what it is now. im sure with a nice bit of make up i will jazz it up. glad i chose to wear this on the mehndi and not the valima though!

Re: Wedding clothes disaster - urgent opinions!

I'm sure you will look lovely once the hair, makeup and jewellery are done.

I would play around with the neckline area - how you pin the duputta on your shoulders and how it drapes over your head. You just need some definition somewhere. That left arm/shoulder needs something doing to it.

Re: Wedding clothes disaster - urgent opinions!

^Try pleating it on your shoulder before putting it on your head.

Re: Wedding clothes disaster - urgent opinions!

it just needs to be fitted and tighter, as it looks like its just hanging and swept around you.

Wear some tight tummy control pants and get someone to pin it real tight, add heals and the take a pic.

Hey Smile1...i totally know how u feel i was gonna wear a sari on my sis walima but hav decided not to as trying on a couple while out shoppin i felt really big and fat in it every sari i tried on made me luk like that it was just uncomfortable..sooo i know wat u mean but urs luk nice...play around with it and it will luk nice mayb u feel like this bc ur not used to wearin saris..

Re: Wedding clothes disaster - urgent opinions!

Why don’t you wear it with a belt and use a ghoongat to cover your head instead of the pallu? Loads of Indian and Bengali brides wear saris for their weddings and Houlds and it looks perfectly fine.

The belt will go over the sari and not under it.

You can even drape it in a different way and see how it looks:

You could try this: pull the border that falls at the bottom up higher towards your knee area. this way the skirted bottom gets more show and balances out the upper area, giving more shape to your figure. Hope this helps, good luck.

check out this pic to see what i’m talking about.

Re: Wedding clothes disaster - urgent opinions!

hey....

1) the color is not right for the occassion n i dont think this particular blue is nice anyway....

2) you shudnt go for an overall embriodered saree, it wl be too much and too auntish?!....go for something that is bright in colors yet not overtly done.

all the best.

Lol cute pic.

This is what I meant by covering. If you lift it like that, you risk exposing the waist which some people don’t want.

being a bride she wont be walking around and not much movement, so the risk of exposure is quite low :)

Re: Wedding clothes disaster - urgent opinions!

Yup, try wearing it like that and see whether it works for you or not.

Re: Wedding clothes disaster - urgent opinions!

the fact that you had the belt sewn down, thats what makes it look weird.. a pre made belt never makes a sari look neat and gives it a gathered around teh waist look making the person look fat.

take out the pleats and pleat ureself on the day of the occassion.
