Wedding centerpieces

Hi girls! I haven’t posted here in a really long time. Anyways I am helping my best friend with her wedding preps and I needed some tips with floral arrangements. How long do you guys think flowers last without water? If we were to arrange the centerpieces with the flowers the day before the wedding, will the flowers start to wilt by the next day? If any of you have any experience please share. Thanks!

Re: Wedding centerpieces

depends on what kind of flower.. but it might take longer than you imagined to arrange flowers.. you might not have time the day right before the wedding.. ask your local florist about what kind of flowers have the best longevity for say a week? you could keep them in water (and use flower food in the water!) before beginning on the arrangements. good luck! :)

Re: Wedding centerpieces

the night before should be fine- thats when most florists will assemble the arrangements. remember to put them in a cool dry place, preferably the basement or the fridge if there is room. some flowers are longer lasting too, and some (like orchids) need to be capped off at the bottom to maintain their longevity.

Flowers that are kept at a temperature between forty and fifty degrees is the best way to help them hold freshness. Since this temperature is too cold to set a thermostat to, try placing the flowers in the refrigerator at night.

All leaves from the stem that will be below water level should be removed before placing flowers in a vase. Cut stems at an angle and cut them while holding them underwater. Cutting them in water prevents air from getting into the stem's veins.

Flowers tend to wilt more quickly when exposed to heat, direct sunlight, or drafts. Broken or floppy stems they can be easily repaired with a popsicle stick, pipe cleaner, or a straw. Any of these items make a good splint to erect falling flowers.
