I’ve seen it on a number of occasions where there is a cake and it’s not shared with the guests. Its usually cut by the bride and groom for the purpose of pictures and then left to the side, or is just left on display without being touched/cut throughout the ceremony. I’m assuming it’s then taken back home by the family who bought it in the first place.
But why is it that people don’t always share it with their guests?
one time I went to this wedding and they had a 3 tier cake, bride groom cut the cake and the FAt Umpa Lumpa father of the bride was in charge of cutting the cake. The greedy git shared the top and middle cake with 200+ guests which was sliced so thin I could see my spoon through it. And I witnessed myself him putting the 3rd which was the largest cake in a box to take home, probably to fill his big fat tidd later.
If ur gonna have cake then make sure theres enough to go round!
i dont think ive ever actually eaten the cake that the bride and groom has cut. they feed eachother and their families and then out of no where the waiters will come out and serve us slices of cake. i think most ppl just buy a cheaper bigger cake for the guests and keep the other for close friends/family for later or something
I’ve heard that some people buy a fake plastic cake! The first two tier cake are fake and made out of plastic and the smallest cake, the one on top, is the only real cake.. that’s the one the bride and the groom cut and eat.. the rest of us either gets another cheaper cake.. or no cake at all!

I litterally laughed out loud when I read this! Your description was too funny!
I've seen it on a number of occasions where there is a cake and it's not shared with the guests. Sometimes the bride and groom have a huge family and the cake is only enough for them (not enough to also feed the guests). So, they may make up for it with some other dessert.
I personally would prefer the cake to the desi desserts.....but as long as they served dessert...they've provided the guests with a complete meal.

I've watched way too much Cake Boss but basically they'll have a wedding cake and they bride+groom cut it at their wedding, waiters reel it in and then they serve the wedding cake PLUS the extra cake they get made on the side. Tgats how they feed everyone because like somebody said up there, it'd be cut so thin you could see your spoon through it, lol. Basically these extra cakes are made EXACTLY like the wedding cake, taste-wise, and served. I think it's a great idea.
I'm hopefully going to have a badass Lahori wedding but I'd still want a cake but only so I can get that quirky Pakistani-bride+groom cake topper. Ahem.
I understand why cake is not shared....we didn't share our cake at my wedding...coz two tiers were of styrofoam... ;) .... only the upper smaller tier was real cake....
A tip the baker gave me to stay in my budget.. So we had our cake and ate it too.... :D ...
on the other hand..for my sister's wedding we had all tiers of real cake so it was served....
a lot of people do serve the cake...but they keep the first tier and bring it home. i heard people freeze the first tier, and then cut it on their first anniversary.
^ its true! lol
its a tradition to eat stale cake apparently :p
our cake was cut but we also had a humongous dessert table that was opened up first so people didn't really eat the cake. they were all about the dessert table. and thank goodness for that- it was a huge disappointment. it just looked pretty. i had some later on and i was so relieved it was never served hahahaha most of it ended up in my in-laws freezer and i think they ate it over the course of the year! maybe it was better frozen? hrmmm....
i think in order to serve the cake to guests, you need to let the waitstaff know they have to cut it and plate it. i've had wedding cake before- the desi wedding cake was mediocre, unfortunately, too much sugar in everything, but the italian wedding cake was AH-MAY-ZING! every last bit of that cake was gone in about 1/2 an hour amongst 200 guests.
If you're going to get a nice cake, at least share it with your guests. I've been to so many weddings where they cut the cake for the photo op and then we never saw it again. Or I have been to weddings, where the cake was a few tiers, really nice but they served some next really dry tasting cake.
I think if you're going to have a nice cake and cut it in front of everyone, you should serve it to your guests.
Not only was my cake beautiful but it tasted good as well....I purposely went to a good baker who charged a good amount of money for it so that my guests would be satisfied!
