Wedding, and Engagement Ring Culture

What is importance of ring in your culture?

Why is it necessary to wear them?

Do you prefer diamond ring or gold ring?

Do men also wear them?

Re: Wedding, and Engagement Ring Culture

In our culture, the ring bit is done at the engagement (as we do the Nikah at the engagement). Traditionally, it was only the woman who got a ring, along with loads of other jewellery.

Historically, if I’m not mistaken, the purpose of rings was to denote who was married and therefore, off limits. I don’t think this is the reason for it in our culture though as, historically, married women did not work outside the home and did not socialise with non-related men, so the off limits thing is moot.

I don’t really like the gold colour, so my ring and wedding bands are platinum.

Men wear wedding bands. I don’t they get an engagement ring with diamonds or anything (well, not in our culture). :hehe:

Is platinum expensive than gold and diamond?

Re: Wedding, and Engagement Ring Culture

Platinum itself is more expensive than gold. In terms of rings/jewellery, I think it depends though. Diamonds and other precious stones affect the value. I would think a plain platinum ring with no stones would be less expensive than a gold ring with a 10 carat diamond.
