Hope you’re all doing well. Please excuse my naiveness in the webdesign realm, but it’s been so long since i made a website. Used to do it back in highschool for fun, for friends and myself.
Now i’m interested in making one again; it’ll be a personal one.
What’s hot in making webpagess nowadays?
What’s your favorite? User-friendly?
All suggestions (relevant or irrelevant) are appreciated. I thank you all so much in advance.
depends what exactly you want to do? Do you want flash on the site? are you going to update it quite often? then in that case use a cms.
there is plenty open source out there now, check: www.joomla.org
I personally have use: - Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Fireworks.
Most of the web-hosting companies offer automated installs of the CMS packages with the php hosting plans. Once installed you can just use the proper templates to customize the site to fit your needs. This way you don't really need any of these website editing tools.
But if you definitely do need software I would second Gizz with Dreamweaver, even tho it costs a little.
What exactly did u download? the Joomla distro? You need a webserver to use that and php and MySQL installed (there’s a package out there with all 3: http://www.wampserver.com/en/download.php). Once you have that setup you need to get Joomla configured and that’s it.
PS: My “joomla” from post 10 was referring to sentence in urdu
PS2: I just realized you said Mac. The above link won’t work on OSX. You’d have to install all components separately on there.
JOomla is a CMS (Content Mangement System), it allows you to publish, organize and present your data along with various tools, modules, components and plugins to enhance website visitor's experience as well as add functionality to the content.
You will need either LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL and PHP) or WAMP (Windows Apache MySQL and PHP) in order to run Joomla and take advantage of its features. I as well as many other users prefer using it on a linux server.

hey man don't be so confused
u can still use HTML to make a great website
if u learn CSS(cascading style sheets) and a bit of JavaScript
u can make well organized and well managed web pages
dont waste ur time in CMS etc. cause u wana make a site for ur personal use not a professional one for ur business. dont bother much about lamp or wamp. stick to html, css and java script.
u can read some tutorials at www . w3schools.com/default.asp
dream weaver is still best option and u can manage everything in it eg html css javascript, tell me if u want a free cracked edition
