Re: web site question...

yaar just wondering sites like muziqpakistan, pakistanvision, pakistanimusic, mushaira.org

these sites are running some php script?

if so thats the type of layout i'm looking for

Re: web site question...

are all audio files in Real Media format?

Re: web site question...

^yes

Re: web site question...

if you have them organized in folder structure.. ie.

Artist 1
- song1
- song2
- song3
Artist 2
- song1
.....

if that is the case then PM me i can write the script to organize it in a database for you :)

Re: web site question...

you can make a script that reads PHP on the fly, and then integrate it with joomla as component.

So for joomla you will need to write a component which can do the job, or you can use wrapper function and call the external page with that script to ur joomla using iframe.

Most of the sites you mentioned like muziqpakistan and rest are using a custom made script

There is no way you can get near that using JOOMLA

The kind of site u need requires a complete custom coding, even if you get a joomla component made for ur media streaming, you will end up in the basic joomla kind of design with those typical user and module positions. It will not get the real touch of a proper music CMS like those sites you mentioned

Re: web site question...

What format are those files going to be?
I might be able to help you in this... I coded a site for a organization of local bands in Chicago who wanted very similar functions to what you are looking for but the popup player would play mp3 files.
The layout looked very much like okesite.com.
If you are interested, let me know and I will search for the code.

Re: web site question...

Oh and about Joomla, use Open SEF and there are few mambots (plugins) that you can use to stream your files.

Re: web site question...

thankx for the help guys

chicago base, i'll be using .rm files - any help would be appreciated

i'm currently reading up on open sef, and joomla, fairly new to the game

thanks in advance

Re: web site question...

OK. I'll send you a PM within a next few days and setup a demo for you to look at. If it's something you can use, let me know and I will send it to you.

Re: web site question…

Oh just remembered, this might be the answer you are looking for if you are planning an all-media website:
http://www.jinzora.org/

Re: web site question...

That's a really good one CB, I'm going to set it up too. Have been thinking of virtualizing my whole CD collection but never found such a genius interface. Thanks for the link.

Re: web site question...

that looks awesome

i'll give it a shot

chicagobase - i'll wait for ur pm too and see what kinda solution u mite have

Re: web site question...

chicago - n e luck with the demo?

Re: web site question...

Abhi nahi yaar, wait a little. Need to find the HD first, plug it in then find the files, will take up good 4-5 hours just to find the files and then few more hours to set it up. Just so you know, it was setup for MP3s, not Real Media as I just hate that thing with a passion.

Re: web site question…

I have written a component for joomla which can take any sort of media file, and steram it(also give download option). I have also given it a pop-up player option for each song.

$SunZaraPrefs"audioFileTypes"] = "3gp,mp3,wma,wav,aif,aiff,au,ogg,ra,mid,midi";
$SunZaraPrefs"videoFileTypes"] = "mpg,mpeg,mpe,asf,avi,wmv,vob,rv,rm,mov,qt";

It reads the media files on the php fly.

I used the turnstyle’s andromeda, and then wrote the whole script again from the scratch, and converted it to a joomla module.

So currently for Joomla the only component that can do all the tricks is my component. I might sell it as a product , but i am not sure yet.

I have also written a shell script for this component, so it can auto convert the mp3s or other media files to the format and bitrate you want and auto tag the songs.

Live Demo of component in Joomla:
Here is how it looks live in action (I have set the component to appear in home position.

To test popup player:
Click on this folder fx, and then click on Play/DL, it will then open a popup player and stream that audio song. ( I haven’t skinned my player yet)

I have also written a search module of this component so that there is a search code that can be placed in any external site, and once searched it will place a search box on the site, so anyone can search the songs.

To see that live search module in action:
Click here and check the RIGHT BOTTOM COLUMN, you will see a search box there. Any song/folder can be searched there.

There are many joomla admin options for this component that i have written. Some of them are:

  1. bandwidth cap (can also disable it)
  2. turn the library on and off for guests
  3. specify the location of media folder(s)
  4. enable / disable downloads
  5. RSS feed for new releases when new albums are added!

And many more.

And last but not least, I have re-polished the whole script so it is now working with openSEF.

The starting price of this component will be around 150US

Re: web site question…

Very nice.
If anyone wants something similar and do not want to pay 150 bucks, I suggest to use Xoops (http://www.xoops.org) and then install Debaser as your module (http://www.xoops.org/modules/repository/singlefile.php?lid=1428&com_id=33753&com_rootid=33753&cid=45)
Demo:
http://www.mernac.com/modules/debaser/genre.php?genreid=1

Re: web site question...

Xoops is not the best CMS for this purpose thats for sure. But ofcourse it is an option. But that debaser module doesnt read PHP's ON THE FLY, it reads them by genre, album names etc. So if you have huge amount of media files like lets say 1000 folders, you cant classify all the mp3s/rm's with tags etc.

I might be wrong, I havent used debaser (or never experimented with it, but i searched for "/modules/debaser/" in google, and the sites that are using it are quite obvious that the songs are displayed genre, album wise.

The best thing i like about my component is that it has RSS feature, so all I have to do is upload the album to the FTP, the library reads the album mp3s on the fly, and the component automatically sends RSS feed to joomla admincp, so it automatically opens an update about that album, and there are other feautres like you can place an album cover .jpg in the fodler so it displays with ur album too.

Try out Jinzora with Joomla ( I am not sure, but that can do the trick, if it can reads the rm, and show them folders wise).
