Wearing mom's old gharara..

I think I decided to wear my mom’s gharara that she got married in… It’s just the bottoms and the dupatta I’ll be using for my nikkah. I think the bottoms are a farshi gharara (the gharara with a middle band/gathering) so my question is, has anyone done/seen an asymmetrical shirt with a farshi gharara? I originally wanted to wear a full gown with a train but since I want to wear my mom’s gharara, would it look good with a shirt that’s short in front (falls just below the gathering so you see a lot of the green gharara) and looooong in the back so it gives the look of a train? Also, the colour I’ve chosen to pair this with is off white.. is there a way I can incorporate some red into it?

I’ll try to post pics tonight of my mom’s gharara.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Here are some pics

Re: Wearing mom's old gharara..

You could add a broad red piping/lining border to the dupatta and the bottom of the gharara.
Or maybe put a red velvet border on the dupatta and the shirt...I think red and off white will look really good with it :)

Im not sure about the train, maybe you could make a straight shirt with this and get a train on your wedding dress...

Re: Wearing mom’s old gharara..

The colours will look great together. I don’t think you need to add anything to the gharara to make it work, just add some green to the new pieces. Also, you can keep both dupatta and shirt off white, and add red finishing as suggested above. If you decide on a train, leave the front open so you can see the gharara (as much as you want to show)

Edit: The pic won’t post, it’s this Kami bridal: kamiar rokni bridal collection 2012 - Google Search

I think you mean this picture

An xact portrayl of what came to my mind  My first thought was to suggest a red duappta, but she’s using the dupatta with the gharara which is probably green, thats why i suggested red pipings on the gharara, not that it needs anything to make it work

Re: Wearing mom's old gharara..

Terebina, you can add a red velvet border on the gharara dupatta and the shirt and it would still look great, just like in the pic, except that the model's dupatta is red too :P and you'll have a near-karma-replica on your hands lol

Re: Wearing mom’s old gharara..

That Kamiar Rokni bridal was exactly what I was thinking of… I love the colours together but I don’t think it would flow for a summer wedding.

I was thinking of doing something along the lines of this bridal I just saw on the Bridal Pics thread:

Basically making the same style shirt and dupatta (so I get the train effect) in that same shade with magenta or red accents and maybe adding some magenta or red trim to the bottom of the gharara.

Re: Wearing mom's old gharara..

^ that's a lehenga and what you have is a regular gharara not a farshi. I would go with a regular shirt that end two inches or so above the band of kaam on the gharara. If you make a longer shirt, it'll hide the band which would be a shame since its so pretty. I also love the kamiar rokni outfit and it is so lovely for a summer wedding! I wouldn't do velvet though- that would be more fall/winter'ish.
