Wearing Abaya or Kameez Shalwar in Pakistan??

I’m going to visit Karachi for a few weeks after Eid. Usually I wear Lawn kameez shalwar when I go shopping or where ever because of the heat. But I am always uncomfortable because it sticks to your body in the heat and its annoying to wear the dupatta.

Because I wear hijab, I am thinking that this time I will just wear what ever clothes and wear an Abaya over it with my hijab. This way I can avoid wearing a dupatta and stay comfortable while shopping etc.

Also, the men in Karachi have a disgusting staring problem, so even will all these clothes on I still feel naked!

What do you guys think? Will an abaya and light cotton hijab be ok or will that look odd?

I think it's fine. I'd get a light summery abaya.

I understand it would be hot in pakistan i dont really like those saudi black abayas you might not be comfortable in them, a nice cotton kaftan dress would be better for pakistan especially as you are not used to wearing it -

this is a nice kaftan with matching scarf only 15 pounds

this too would be nice,

i've seen plenty of womne in pak wearing abaya/burka, i don't think its odd at all...whatever ur comfortable with.

Re: Wearing Abaya or Kameez Shalwar in Pakistan??

why will you feel naked if you are wearing an abaya ! yes you can wear abaya with a light cotton hijab as weather is hot here ! ....

Re: Wearing Abaya or Kameez Shalwar in Pakistan??

thanks everyone!

thats what I'm gonna do, wear my abaya which is really comfy, and wear a light cotton hijab :) i bought some really pretty ones!

Re: Wearing Abaya or Kameez Shalwar in Pakistan??

Because that is how the stares make you feel! I experienced the same when I went for umrah - wearing an abaya, hijab and looking 13 years old with no makeup or anything and yet they make you feel soooooooo uncomfortable. And this in Makkah too, not in Medina or Jeddah.

Re: Wearing Abaya or Kameez Shalwar in Pakistan??

Loose fitting lawn should be fine, not all cotton sticks to you. With the increasing Saudi-ization of Pakistan you won't be out of place in an abaya.

Re: Wearing Abaya or Kameez Shalwar in Pakistan??

yeah I noticed too many abayas too in lahore in certain places....guess it's coz of the men staring.

Re: Wearing Abaya or Kameez Shalwar in Pakistan??

isnt the style for pakistani clothes liek an abaya anyways? those floor lenght a-line kameezes.

make a few of those.

bring an abaya...doesnt have to be black.

men stare regardless...hijabi or not..abaya or shalwar kameez.

Re: Wearing Abaya or Kameez Shalwar in Pakistan??

you're all right, the stares are horrible. I dont understand what they get out of staring at random women!

But I'll be very comfortable with my abaya and hijab inshallah!

Re: Wearing Abaya or Kameez Shalwar in Pakistan??

yeah men stare regardless of the abaya.. i usually go to the bazaar without any makeup on. and even if I wear a shalwar kameez i make my dupatta into the hijaab to coverup fully - also, I never go out without my hubs or atleast ONE man from the family, be it my devar or jaith.
