The kid does not touch milk in any other bottle.. I have tried sippy cups.. I have tried using the same cup he drinks his water out of (just a different colour), I have tried feeding him when he is REALLLLLLY hungry, but nothing is working.
Ive heard at childcare, the minder literally has to squeeze milk into his mouth (she reckons he doesnt know how to drink from a bottle I dont think so.. I think he’s a lot smarter than that… or not).
Same here! I need to get my son to drink from a bottle…he used to do great with pumped milk in a bottle when he was younger. Ever since I’ve spent more time with him this summer, I stopped giving him a bottle and it was a bad idea. He doesn’t take the bottle and I think he hates the taste of regular milk
Oh I remember those days! My daughter refused to take any bottle and I finally weaned her off at 14 months. In my opinion, the only way you can wean off a strong willed baby is by going cold turkey. I went to stay with my mom for a week and she took care of my daughter during the night. It was incredibly tough for the first three days but then it got better and by the 5th day or so, she was taking a bottle. I should have started a sippy cup in hindsight but decided to go with a bottle at that time.
I would advise you guys to go cold turkey. It will be tough but after a couple of days they will start drinking from a bottle or a sippy. Meanwhile make sure to include lots of dairy such as yoghurt and cheese in their diet so that they are getting their calcium.
Shudnt this and the other thread by chic pinnacle be combined so that all advice is in one place and everyone can benefit. Lots of advice is given there.
Try a colourful bottle and put it in front of him. Stay in sight so if bottle drops u can oick it up. Mayb he ll reach for it n pick it up.
Also try to cover the bottle so je doesnt know wats in it. Try the same aippy cup that he uses for water same colour even.
Ih and distraction is key. Give him a toy in his hand that he loves nd lie him down. Hold the toy up front and try the bottle from the side of his mouth without letting the milk out until he gets a grasp of nipple or just accepts the nipple to stay in his mouth.
Thanks for your advice chaachi… I had tried everything mentioned.. hence resorted to opening another thread out of frustration
but
looks like, just as I was being highly critical of my spawn2… he had decided it was about time he DID give the bottle a go.
I went to pick him up from childcare and the minder was estatic that he had drank 160ml and was wanting more… there was even a big fat note on this daily record with smilies saying how proud they were of him…I was in disbelief… so I went home and offered him another bottle after dinner… and my laal actually drank it!!!
I thought it was just a once off thing… but he did mama proud and had another bottle this morning.
Fingers crossed, this is not just an illusion and is a habit that will stay… INSHALLAH
So happy for u n him. Yahthey do give surprises but remember key is to stay patient. If he doesnt want it dont force it no matter how much u want to. I m speaking from experience.
For any mother i would recommend to start the bottle in their semi sleep state. I think it works.
