ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) after forming the government in centre and provinces would try its best to have a working relationship with President Pervez Musharraf, PPP Senator Enver Baig said on Sunday.
Talking to the BBC TV, he said a confrontational approach should be done away with and everybody should play its role for the progress and prosperity of the country.Enver said the Parliament would take decisions in accordance with the wishes of the people and their problems would be resolved.
Political parties would have to work for the prosperity of the country, otherwise, they would be wiped out in the next elections, he added. The senator termed negotiations the best possible way to tackle the menace of terrorism and extremism. The problem of suicide bombings and militancy would be resolved by the political parties through a dialogue, he added.
The PPP-ANP coalition would have a very good impact in the northern belt of the country, he said and added the people of the troubled areas would be engaged politically, economically and socially.
He said the elections proved to the world that Pakistan is a very moderate country. The religio-political parties having strength of more than 50 seats in the previous National Assembly, have now been reduced to only three seats in the current Parliament, he added.
Regarding cases against Zardari, he said despite being in jail for nine years, no case against the PPP co-chairman had been proved, adding that six cases had been dismissed by the courts.
Commenting on Pakistan’s nuclear assets, he said they were 200 per cent safe. The Army was capable of handling its nuclear assets, he said and added that the international community should not worry about that.
