we really aren't ready for a change, now are we?

i got this thread from the general.
hinna and pilot are having quite a fight over there on it … and so this is like a branch off that.

here’s the article itself: http://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/0%2C%2C2-2001273134%2C00.html

it’s basically about a pakistani muslim woman in uk who’s a comedian; she was punched out by 3 men who thought she was (get this) a disgrace to our culture and religion. they said, that women cant’ do such things.
the nerve !!!

2 points i find interesting:

Point one:
some of us were kinda mad how in rush hour 2 the script writers get away with making those racist jokes in the movie. however , some of us think bringing those racist jokes out in the open is fine because we’re telling the public that it is not fine - which is why you mock the joke itself.
this muslim comedian lady is doing the exact same thing. she’s joking about the stereotypes of islam in her show - at the same time she’s mocking the public how they’re very ignorant in the first place to be stereotyping us as it is. and not to mention, she’s bringing awareness to it as well.

now let’s flip the coin shall we?

Point 2:
those idiots who attacked her??? they’re saying she’s a disgrace to out pakistani culture, and to our religion of islam for what shes’ saying and doing. however, what right gives them to even raise a finger at this woman in the first place - or to talk badly about her?
now this also reminds me of that female junoon group thing we were discussing about here - that when it comes to the entertainment business and women taking part, we can only handle so much change very very slowly.
these 3 men … represent a whole chunk of our population who can’t even begin to accept change, and accept how women are able to have a grasp of control in many areas of any profession today.

my god. what in the world is holding this mentality of ours back ??

men!

wats their prob she was dressed entirely in black, with her head covered, u c muslim gals workin in supemarkets wid half clothes on y don’t they go and punch them 2, it’s cause of these sort of guys that white ppl get a negative image of us muslims.

well, it's not even only the men sofina.
it's also some us ladies , we have this thinking of ours to agree that what this woman was/is doing is not right .. that this 'different' thing she's doing is absolutely unacceptable.
then who or what can you justify?

I totally agree with you aphrodite on your two points. But my position is that if paki men will ever change, its going to be when women stop being so damn shy about things and show men what they're all about. For example, you go to Pakistan and you open an English magazine (fashion, politics, whatever) - you'll always find women as publishers, writers, editors, etc. Women have an equal hand in drama production, acting, dance, films, etc. Before, women had a problem getting into the media and the most they could find themselves doing was being an anchor on PTV (ya know - those women with the dupattas on their heads introducing dramas) or performing senseless thumkas on the silver screen. But paki media has finally accepted women being in the ranks because women fought their way into the industry. Similarly, i think that if a girl band got up and started doing something like junoon - it might be shocking at first, but then slowly more women would join in and pakistani men would find themselves accepting it.

I’m guessing she might have threaten the egos of Muslim men

I agree with you aphrodite

Its strange why some people are allowed to do something and not be called a disgrace and another to be called a disgrace 4 doing the same thing
