We have a paindoo in this forum!

Yup that’s me. I have no clue how to bake or grill or anything. We have an oven at home that i’ve never used. Now I want to put it to use. I want to roast or BBQ or grill a chicken. I want to bake cookies or a cake or something.

So somebody please tell me how to use that thing. Consider me a layperson and explain how to bake something in it if the material is ready. Also, how to grill something in it.

This is what it looks like, except that there are timer numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6 on the right instead of the images.

hOven

Thank You!!!

Re: We have a paindoo in this forum!

i can if you declare that you are a FAST LEARNING painDoo lol.

Re: We have a paindoo in this forum!

marinate some chicken with tikkah masala. chop some onions, potatoes, and carrots. in a baking tray lay the vegetables, place the marinated chicken on top of the vegetables. cover the tray with foil, place it in preheated owen at 350F (177C) for 45mins to an hour. dont open the oven door until 45 minutes. at 45 minutes check the chicken, it should be tender, remove the cover and bake for another 5 mins or so.

do you have a users manual. those buttons in the middle are for timmer, the up arrow to increase the time, down arrow to decrease the time. to preheat, turn the knob on left to your desire temperature. when the oven comes to that desire temperature, it will either buzz or something will show up on the oven screen.

Re: We have a paindoo in this forum!

I do exactly as Lusi but in the end i thicken the watery marinate by evaporation and use it to baste chicken while grilling.

Re: We have a paindoo in this forum!

Another delicious chicken roast recipe:
one whole chicken
half cup vinegar
11/2 table spoon zera
1 1/2table spoon corriander seeds
salt to taste
green chillies 5 to 6 (the small indian ones)
one medium onion
few cloves of garlic
11/2 inch of ginger
2 to 3 lemons
4 to 5 table spoons of oil
put every thing in blender and blend it well, marinate the chicken for the whole night (it smells heavenly). putting in the utensil u use for baking cook it covered for 45 minutes in preheated oven at 350, when its done finish it by putting on broil for 5 to 10 minutes (if the chicken looks too steamed or whitish)

Re: We have a paindoo in this forum!

Just saw the thread Daffy ..

ok my understanding is that , the right hand knob :

The first sign is the bulb, dont know what that is for
the second sign is definitely the fan option , i have used it in the past for making nan’s on slow heat ..
the 3rd sign means oven , top rod and lower rod working at the same time
4th sign might be indicating the upper oven rod only
5th sign indicating the lower oven rod only

I dont know any of the signs after that one .. its one wierd oven though i must say .. have you got a manual for it? the rest of the signs might be for the grill function .. but I am not sure to be honest ..

Re: We have a paindoo in this forum!

okkay i just looked through the picture after checking cb’s post, this is definitely a convection oven. the fan is meant to distribute equal amount of heat which is ideal for baking cakes and roasting etc. if you are living in a rental aprtment you can ask the landlord or managment for the oven manual.

Re: We have a paindoo in this forum!

CB, DD’s right knob has numbers not images.

So there is nothing to suggest that the oven is fan assisted.

The best thing to do is give us the make and any model number and we can see if there is a manual online. If not, your landlord should be able to help it you are renting. Or take a pic of the front for us

Personally, I think that the right hand knob is for the grill setting - just how hot you want it to be. A way to test this would be to leave the oven door open and put the right knob only to something like 4. Wait a few minutes and if an element at the top of the oven gets red and hot, then this is the grill.

I would not worry about the grill yet, just start baking things using the oven only. For this, all you need to do is turn the knob to the temperature required for preheating and wait until the oven is hot before putting in the food (whether it’s a simple cake or something like one of the above recipes). You should know that the oven is trying to get to temperature if a light on the front comes on. Once it is at temperature, the light usually goes off.

KKF - I am a fast learning paindooo :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the recipes girls, I need more information on how to use it than baking itself. Basically a description of what each of the knobs, buttons and the options mean. I underatand the temperature bit but the rest nope.

CB & Stoppit - I took a picture, this is what it looks like. It has a fan, which other types are there?

It’s by a company called Candy; model number I don’t know of.

Re: We have a paindoo in this forum!

Don’t use the grill for anything apart from maybe cheese on toast. It dries everything out.

Re: We have a paindoo in this forum!

The right hand knob is for the oven and to set oven temperature. It is a fan assisted oven, which it doesn’t give you a choice about (that’s fine). Electric ovens have a problem that the heat throughout is not even, the fan creates air circulation that keeps the temperature more even. Cooking time may also be slightly reduced, so it will be a matter of trialling how long typical dishes or bakes take.

So for example, if you are baking a cake, you will preheat the oven to 150ºC. Just turn the knob to 150ºC and the red light should come on. When the oven is at temperature, the red light should go off… the oven is still on but it doesn’t need to heat further… it will turn itself on again if you increase the temperature or when it begins to cool. Once is the oven is hot, you can put your food in and increase the temperature if it is required. Baking in the oven is generally done by placing the dish in the middle of the oven… the shelf should be in the middle to lower half.

The zig zag icon means grill. The grill element is at the top of the oven. If you want the grill on, you need to turn the right hand knob all the way clockwise until it is on the icon. The left hand dial with the numbers 1-6, is, I’m pretty sure, the grill intensity. Again, you have to trial how hot it becomes at each number. When you use the grill, you will put the shelf near the grill element… how far away depends how slow/quick you want the food to grill. So, if you want to toast a piece of bread, a few cm away is fine and then keep checking it.

Beeb said what I was thinking - I almost only use the grill for making cheese on toast. If you want to check the grill settings, just stick a piece of bread under to make toast, if it is taking a long time to toast, increase the number.

The buttons in the centre are for the timer… which I have never used but I’m sure you can figure it out.

Re: We have a paindoo in this forum!

Thank you so much Stoppit for the detailed reply. I was looking for something like this. Ill give it a shot now and will also ask for the manual from the landlord; i hope he’d have it.
