KOCHI: Kochi Tuskers coach Geoff Lawson has put his money on Pakistan breaking Indian hearts and entering the final of the ICC World Cup.
“We could see a Pakistan-New Zealand final,” said the 53-year-old Australian after the Kochi IPL team’s opening training session at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Saturday.
“Pakistan beat India four years ago at Mohali,” reminded Lawson, who was the coach of the Pakistan team then. Mohali will also be the venue for India’s World Cup semifinal against Pakistan on Wednesday.
“Pakistan is playing really well, their guys look really good. This has been a very good World Cup,” said the former Australian fast bowler who terrorised England in the 1982-83 Ashes Series, claiming 34 wickets.
Lawson also feels Australia needs to find a new captain. “Australia should try to get someone new. Ponting has been fantastic but now, we need some fresh leadership.”
The Kochi Tuskers coach was happy with the opening day’s action and with the ground and lighting arrangements.
“It has been good for the first day. We’re finding things, a lot of things to do. The lights are good, very strong; it’s going to be fabulous for the people.”
He had a word of praise for Raiphy Vincent Gomez, the Kerala Ranji captain and one of the two uncapped players to be signed by the Kochi Tuskers. Raiphy is a good cricketer and a good leader,” he said.
