We are expecting our first child

Re: We are expecting our first child

Well i gues they have to realize what's more annoying (If they are choosing to breastfeed), breast pump or natural feeding.. I dunno how some moms can do it for babies past the age of 1.. :(

Oh and i've heard of some girls who are unable to breastfeed the baby, like the baby won't take the breast or something like that.

Re: We are expecting our first child

yes powedered milk does have added vitamins etc but breast milk has everything in it naturally that your baby needs, it is especially catered for your baby’s needs and works on a supply and demand basis, the more they feed the more you will make breast milk but if you dont breast feed your supply will dwindle away, even the doctors/nurses say that dont give formula milk, when i was in hospital wiht my child i asked the dr that should i give him breast milk and a top up with formula and he said ‘no, chuck it away. your milk is fine, it is better’. as your baby grows your milk also changes to support the baby’s growing needs, it already has the essential vitamins etc needed for your baby,

its good for the night you dont have to bother with washing bottles and warming water to make milk, you just get your baby feed him and put him back to bed.

there are so many more arguements such as breast fed babies are more intelligent, they have a closer bond with their mothers, mothers have a less risk of breat cancer, i cant remember others but i will have a look at my book and get back to you.

i know all of this because ive just also had a baby and i breast feed him, its such a special intimate feeling which you have when you are breasfeeding

lol...u got problem with that....i'd say when they start talking coherently or walking by themselves...then its time to stop.

Re: We are expecting our first child

lol, you're not stuck in the house for two years, its mostly the first two months maybe evn just the first month.

you dont have to breastfeed the baby for full two years even just 3 months or 6 months or a year. its better than not doing it at all.

Re: We are expecting our first child

Well, frmo what i’ve heard, it can be kinda painful to begin with, and i’m guessing, it gets MORE painful as the baby grows teeth

Re: We are expecting our first child

Muzna, you breast feeded for so long -- hats off to you.
Mines is still having mother milk but only during nights and maybe once during day time, when she wants to nap. I also give her 2 times 150 ml of formula and other solid food.

I dont know if I am able to do it for 2 years, but as long as she needs it, I will just do it for my baby.

As about advantages, I heard there are many, but the best one that speaks for it, that your child will have lesser alergies and other sickness, he/she will be immune to many diseases and are much healthier on the long term.

Re: We are expecting our first child

Ask Muzna, she knows.

Re: We are expecting our first child

Yeah, the beginning is painful, but its gets normal after a month or so, yes those teeths, babies like to sharpen their teeths there.

Hats off to u!!

Re: We are expecting our first child

DW40,

If you just want to convince your wife, go to her next Dr.'s appointment with her and bring up that topic with the doctor. Most doctors recommend breastfeeding over formula and she will get an unbiased professional opinion.

Though in my experience, if you are just concerned about baby's health than formula vs. breastfeeding doesn't make a whole lot of difference in the long run. No study has found that one adult lives a healthier life than the other depending on how he got his initial milk. Any person's health in the long run depends on the choices he makes throughout his or her life.

Re: We are expecting our first child

^ I dont quite agree -- but its your opinion.

I know that a lot of allergies occure due to not having mothers milk at the beginning.

Re: We are expecting our first child

Saadia i'll give you an example

Anam was on the breast for a year and some months
She is allergic to everything.

Anha was on the bottle, she is normal.

Re: We are expecting our first child

SaadiaB, my daughter is allergic to peanut and I have read a LOT of medical papers (it’s almost been a habit) and I can't safely conclude that it is because of or not because of breastfeeding. Though I do admit that most studies link better immune system to breastfeeding.

But I look at it from a bird’s eye view of things. If you look at the third world countries, almost all children are breastfed because they can’t really afford formula. So can you say they are healthier than the babies in the western or developed world? Not really and it’s because overall and in the long run, there is a lot that goes into our health.

Re: We are expecting our first child

breast milk is definately much better for the baby. the baby is less likely to get ill cuz it would have immunity acquired from the mothers milk. also its good for the mother too....i heard it helps to lose the weight gained during pregnancy

Re: We are expecting our first child

most health orgs recommend six months of exclusive breastfeeding. if your wife is still not comfortable with it then she should at least let the baby have the colostrum, which is what comes out of the breast before milk, and is loaded with all the important stuff for building the immune system.
