Spain was by far the most consistent team in the tournament. It would have been a grave injustice had Netherlands won it on penalty shootouts cuz Spain was the only team actually trying to play. They never deter from their passing game which is so pleasing to watch and a credit to their mental steel. Teams know that they cannot compete with them at their game so they defend and defend with 10 men.
Spain's victory was a victory for football because they play it the right way. The only thing they lacked in this tournament was their finishing. Every match they cuold have won by 2, 3 goals margin but Torres was badly out of form and fitness. Even yesterday they could have scored at least 4 goals if not for last ditch defending and great keeping.
I was really disappointed with Dutch tactics yesterday.. they were playing a wrestling match rather than a football match. I thought they had it in them to compete with spain (Brazil match affirmed my belief!) .. they disappointed but Spain did not. Hats off!
