Perhaps more so than any previous World Cup, the 2007 tournament will spell the end of an entire generation of players, many of them legends. Others will realize they will not even make it that far and retire in the leadup.
How would this compare to other previous WC. (The last one hit RSA the hardest, and S Waugh fell trying to make it that far.)
Who do you think will end their careers in this tournament? I’ll start with five.
1… Brian Lara - bow out at home.
2. …Sanath Jayasuria - something tells me he isn’t gone, and will return for one last hurrah.
3. …Glen McGrath - Hayden - Warne - Langer an Allan Donald type finish?
4. … Cairns
5… Inzimam
6… ?
I agree that Tendulkar will/should retire in WC'07, cuz if he doesn't then he'll face a forced retirement (unless something happens b4 WC'07) before WC'11.
btw, considering that Shahid Afridi is still only 25 Yrs old (His uncomplicated Birth Date: March 1, 1980 - as per his indisputable Birth Certificate issued by the Tribal Authorities of Khyber Agency)...it looks like he will last till WC2011. What say ?
Indians worship him. I doubt he will be forced to retire, even if he doesn’t score. If he is forced to go, there’ll be a bigger riot than the one occuring for Ganguly.
^ I don't think Tendulkar enjoys any particular racial support. Besides, I didn't mean to suggest that he will automatically be forced to retire after WC'07, if he continues to bat with decent average then he may play till 2050 or even beyond. :)
^ well we only love a performing God. If he perform he is the God. And if he does not.. we dont have any qualms in making him the devil. Look at gangu.!!!
Gangu was only questioned when the team started losing, while Gangu himself hadn’t performed long before that, his performance was on decline but was ignored as the team was still managing victory(ies) somehow. Besides, there is no comparison between Gangu and Sachin.
