Sandeep Patil must be congratulated for Kenya’a achievement.
Sandeep Patil confident of Indian upset
Kenya coach Sandeep Patil believes his inside knowledge of India will benefit his side ahead of their Super Sixes match in Cape Town on Friday.
I am an Indian, but first I am a professional coach and I will not let anything get in the way of that
Sandeep Patil
Former batsman Patil, a member of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning side in England, has guided Kenya to the knockout phase of the tournament for the first time in their history.
Although many commentators are predicting an easy Indian victory, Patil has other ideas.
“I know the Indians’ strengths which should help me finalise our strategy,” he told BBC Hindi.
"India have a very strong batting line-up, but we have bowlers who can make an impact.
“The team morale is very high and our body language is extremely positive, so anything could happen.”
The match at Newlands takes on extra significance for both sides because it is a day/night game.
The evening conditions have suited the side bowling second as the white ball has swung and seamed considerably more under floodlights.
Floodlights under the spotlight
And Patil acknowledged the toss would be crucial in deciding the final outcome.
“Tomorrow morning I will check the weather conditions, talk with the players and look at the pitch before deciding whether we should bat first or second,” said Patil.
“If we do bat first, we should be aiming set a big total.”
Patil has made a huge impact on Kenyan cricket since his appointment as coach four years ago.
But despite his successful playing career with India, Patil insists he will have no divided loyalties come Friday.
“I am an Indian, but first I am a professional coach and I will not let anything get in the way of that,” he said.
Brett Lee and Mcgrath giving a masterclass on how to bowl on flat pitches. Sri Lanka struggling at 48-4 with both bowlers bowling straight, good line and length mixed with aggressive short bowling. When Shoaib or Waqar have bowled short it's usually been wide or over the batsman's head. These guys are a different class.
