India is on a roll too, they already beat Kenya in Super 6, chances are they will this one too. Also Kenyans couldn't get much support from the conditions despite getting early breakthroughs. But then its cricket.

Exactly I think this was done on purpose. I find it hard to believe ZIM all out 133 and thats against KEN. I am not degrading any team by saying that but I think ZIM or KEN may have done this on purpose.

So now SL MUST win from ZIM to go to Semi and NZ must win from India. Race is on between NZ and SL and if they both win then NZ will be playing the semi.

Seems like a final between AUST and IND thats if there are no more upsets

Anyways GOODLUCK to all the teams. :k:

Super Six: Current standings

     P W L NR Pts NRR
1 Aus 4 4 0 0 20 +1.79
2 Ind 4 3 1 0 16 +0.86
3 Ken 4 3 1 0 14 +1.03
4 NZ 4 1 3 0 8 -0.88
5 SL 4 1 3 0 7.5 -1.43
6 Zim 4 0 4 0 3.5 -1.20

Match 7, India v New Zealand, Centurion,March 14

Match 8, Zimbabwe v Sri Lanka, East London, March 15

Match 9, Australia v Kenya, Durban, March 15 D/N

The remaining place is between NZ and SL. If NZ beat India they are through and SL are out. However if NZ loses to India then SL still has to beat Zimbabwe to go through. Keeping in mind NZ's recent sucess against India they might just snick through, making the Zimbabwe, SL clash just a formaility.

Lets hope New Zealand qualifies, because they are the only team who has a little chance of beating Australia with their fast bowlers.
I would say India will still be favorites to win against New Zealand with some revenge still in their minds.

At this point enough unexpected things have happened that India better not take things too lightly. In the New Zealand game, even though we have no stakes, it is important to make sure nobody gets hurt. May be play a couple of development sqaudders.

Whether NZ qualify or SL qualify I think both are capable of beating Australia - because it'd take a miracle to beat Australia and miracles can happen to SL or NZ!

A lot hinges on Muralitharan for SL and Harbhajan for India.

Harbhajan  he has been quite ordinary so far. I think Zaheer/Nehra have better chance. But fingers crossed; bhajji should be back to his form against kangaroos !

I would say if India would have any success than with the bowlers than Zaheer and Srinath might be able to do it. Nehra was just a one hit wonder and Harbajhan has been a flop so far.

I think Srinath was playing the best cricket of his life.

U r right. but Nehra is learning his lessons very fast: a true protege of Akram :k: I think in good bowling conditions he can be devastating.

I agree Srinath Zaheer and Nehra are key. If all 3 of them bowl economically then ok - but even if one of them loose line and length it will be very costly,,,we need four attackers, at least three. That's why Harbhajan has to click. Whether in terms of quick wickets and or economics

Here is what I find interesting. The World Cup is hosted by three nations. Out of whom, the favorites (South Africa) got knocked out in the first round. The other grade A (Test playing) team, Zimbabwe got knocked out in the next round. And the one host, whom no one would have deemed worthy of another look, Kenya, made it to the final four. wow :k:

Such are the wonders of this World Cup :k:

ps. Actually the point is, by the extrapolating the same elimination technique, Kenya will lose the semis.. and final will be devoid of any host. Lets see.

Well i won't agree with your statement and in fact no one would. Which fast bowlers you r talking abt..Shane Bond, who else's there..?? New Zealander's no way mate, they don't even have someone with a individual brialliance of Tendulkar. Look at their batting, they seem to be crippled. You just can't defeat Australia like anything.. In the last match, leaving out Shane Bond and to some extent Vettori put some pressure, but the moment they finished their quota the runs..

anyway's wait and watch..

The best way to exploit the Aussie batsman on these South African tracks is quality fast bowling. Shane Bond has been continiously good against Australia for the past year, Shoaib destroyed the Aussie batsman sometime ago, Makhaya Ntini had success against the Aussies in VB series.
The common thing about all these bowlers is their ability to swing at fast pace and Aussie batsman are very vulnerable when it comes to fast bowlers swinging the ball.
Indian bowlers are medium pacers and they only bowl according to line and length and that won't work against the Aussies as you have probably seen in the previous encounter against Australia at Centurion.
The only way India can win against Australia if Tendulkar can post up a huge total for India, if he goes earlier on then India has lost the game.

Well usee Umair, these pitches are not grass meadows where you can see cows grazing. After the tour of New zealand everyone was saying Indians' won't be able to perform in the world cup, but ali Bacher said that time that pitches in South Africa would be conducive for Indian batsmen and that's been the case. I never even talked abt Indian bowlers, how come u brought them in the talk. kinda wierd. If you would have said Australians are vunerable to spin i might agree, pace nah mate...In fact they come from bouncy tracks they shouldn't be having any problems..Furthermore you might not agree but line and length is more probing than fast bowling, i mean what happened to shoaib and ntini. Let's not even bring Tendulkar in the picture. Even English were able to sort out shoaib. Other thing is that pitches in south africa are hard, which means they offer pace and bounce and literally no lateral movement. Well let's see regarding the fact abt Tendulkar, i mean give it to the guy, he's upto somethin in this world cup. He wants to prove to every bowler and every spectator out there. Plus, i think there are other guys also who are making the scores, but there's one fact that no one can ever come near Tendulkar. this guy is like god walking on the field of Cricket. He seems to have answers to everything, until now..

Jind_Mahi, no one is taking the credit away from Tendulkar, he is best batsman in the world currently.
But we are discussing Aussies weaknesses. I can tell you Aussie might only have trouble with the spin in subcontinent but outside, they can handle them pretty well.
But if you look at everytime the Aussies have collapsed for the past year or 2, they have gone down due to very first class fast bowlers, not just medium pacers but fast bowlers.
Guys like Shoaib who exploited their batting in Australia last June on a bouncy track, Shane Bond and Makhaya Ntini did the similiar amount of damage on the bouncy track during VB Series, then Shoaib also destroying the Aussies in 1st test on a flat track in Colombo and now in this WC, Shane Bond and James Anderson have done damage to the Aussies, and all of them fast pace bowlers.

Not only it depends on the pitch, but also the conditions, you can swing the bowl very nicely on a flat track, if the conditions are nice, if you have extra moisture you have a pretty good chance of swinging the ball.

...

First rule of cricket, You cna't rush for oyur shots when you r playing on a slow Wicket..First of all VB series and colombo are different part of the world, and we r talking here abt immensely different pitches. Also please note, Aus Vs Eng and Aus Vs New Zealand were played in Port Elizabeth, and because of the slow nature of wicket Ali Bacher has already asked for an inquiry regarding the nature of wicket before semi-finals. Also if you want an article to prove this there are, and you can look for them. And u see i haven't seen anyone swinging the ball. That's only something which is available in the first 20-30 mins and if you r a good batsmen you should know how to tackle it..

And one more thing, you really stressed too much about very first class fast bowlers. the players you mentioned their careers are still not developed. Once in a while they perform and you make a big ho-ha. Ntini did nothing in this world cup, and same goes for Anderson and Akhtar..i am not couting Anderson's performance against Paki match as it was a day nighter and in your words for NEhra it was a fluke..Why didn't they performed in this world cup.? If they did how come their teams lost..? Oh yes u r gonna cricket is a team game, so how come that rule is not for india..Sachin is scoring, but look at the other batsmen also..moreover, the bowlers of India are doing commendable job..
and keep on coming..i really love answering your queries..

Jind Mahi, if you have watched most of the matches in the cup so far, you might have noticed that the ball does swing in occaisional situations, the conditions in South Africa are very different from the condition in other places where you can find flat track.
And if you had watched the match between Kiwis and Aussies, you had seen Bond did some swing and yes the slowness of the pitch also aided the bowlers but if you can swing the bowl against the Aussies and bowl 145+ at the sametime, then you can take wickets against Australia, Shane Bond in particular has done that everytime he plays Australia.
Talking about Nehra, well played exceptionally well in one match but other than that he is bowl with his line and length and has been awarded some wickets. But you can't expect the same against the Aussies, they are much different class.
Once again, you are taking my words in a wrong way, Indian bowlers have done well against other mediocore batting lineups of Sri Lanka and Kenya by bowling with perfect line and length but they tried the same against the Aussies in Centurion and they were butchered, and the pitch likely for the final against Australia will be very flat and its going to take alot more than just line and length to overcome the best batting side.

About Tendulkar, my theory is if he fails against quality teams, the rest go down with him. If you seen the matches India have won so far, Tendulkar have given them great starts, matches against Pakistan, Sri Lanka, England etc, he butchered the bowlers earlier on and the middle order had to come in and push the bowl into gaps and take singles and easily chase the score in the end.

All in all if India are going to win the WC which they can, Sachin has to give them a great start and possibly score a century to put up a huge total against the Aussies.
