Waxing Kits

Anyone recommend waxing kits that you can buy and use on your own. I find these salons incredibly high priced. I just want to know what is a good quality wax…and are there different kinds of waxes?

Re: Waxing Kits

depends... what do u wanna wax...

u could invest in a wax heater, those are awesome... and then use hot wax

otherwise you can get the microwaveable wax... ie Nads, Mariana...

depends on what you wanna do though..

Re: Waxing Kits

Nair?

Re: Waxing Kits

make ur own?

MUCH cheaper than going to a salon or even buying one. Seriously.

Re: Waxing Kits

^ hey sehar do u have a recipe?

Re: Waxing Kits

Yeah do you have a recipe. I'm going for legs. Shaving is becoming way too cumbersome.

Re: Waxing Kits

aaah PCG, waxing ur own legs is a nasty experience.. trust me.. u may sit there for 3-4 minutes reciting Bismillah.. and by the time u have the guts to pull it off, the wax will be cold...

have u thought of epiladying? its a once off charge...

Re: Waxing Kits

I hope you mean guts, not guys. :(

Epiladying - hain?? What's that?

Well, don't you get used to it after a while?

Re: Waxing Kits

sorry, was a misspelling…

eplilady = that horrendous looking machine that rips the hair out? i’d recommend Silk Epil though… :k:

hmm i dunno.. ive been waxing for years, and although im more pain resistent now.. id still prefer someone else do it for me… i dont have to mentally prepare myelf that way

Re: Waxing Kits

yup -

1 cup sugar
3 tablespoons water
3 tablespoons lemon juice

Put them in a saucepan and put it over LOW heat, the mixture will eventually become liquid and now the hard part is about consistency. You have to keep stirring it over low flame until the mixture becomes a nice light-mid golden color. If you riase the temp, it will caramelize and become useless, so DO NOT let it become dark. When it's light-mid golden brown color check the consistency by spooning a drop on the countertop, if it forms nicely then it's done, if it spreads then leave it on for a lil longer and keep checking the consistency via the drop method. Towards the end put a few drops of ur favorite oil, be it baby oil, almond, or coconut or whatever. And once it's done, pour it into a microwavable container with a lid, cuz the mixture will be enough to be used 2-3 times depending how much area you'll be waxing. Legs can be waxed about 2-3 times with that amount. So put it in the container and let it cool and then reheat it for about 15 seconds, and then get ur strips out and and you are ready to go. Of the many times i've made it, i've failed about two times so it's a trial and error method but you'll get the hang of it. It's worth saving the money.

Oh and the pain issue, trust me it's worth it....you do it a few times and hair becomes much finer and and less widespread. It's just the first strip thats a lil nervewrecking, you recite bismillah about thirty times but once you've done the first strip it's much easier, you strip strip strip away :-D Goodluck!

Re: Waxing Kits

I'v always used home made wax, similar recipe to Sehar's but we don't add water. I find its much less painfull and its easier to remove if it accidentally spills onto something it should'nt have.

Does anyone use anthing after they have waxed? like some sort of balm or oil which calms the skin down.

Re: Waxing Kits

sadzzz i think you will find the recommendation is using lukewarm wax on area ready to be waxed not hot wax? don't any1 say u r a guy what would u know.

Re: Waxing Kits

so does waxing hurt just the first few times.

i tried the sugar junk out there & that HURT!

i just tried nads thinking it wouldnt hurt too much & that HURT!

I have extremely sensitive & dry skin, does that affect the pain factor???

Have any of you tried the creams like nair? can you use retardation cream after using them?

Re: Waxing Kits

I tried few different ones like veet wax strips and other wax but the best one is
Nair roll-on wax

Re: Waxing Kits

do these hurt???

Re: Waxing Kits

ok depending on if ur in the uk.
Go to bodycare. Its called warm wax tea tree i think, its a big tub for £3.99.
with that tub, i got 4 leg waxes (half legs) 3 arm waxes. still a bit left over.

its kewl coz u can microwave it for a minute and it stay warm for ages. hence no need to keep running to get it warmed again.

Best thing is to get a friend to do it. my friend does mine - but she does her own.

The pain factor - hurts on the 1st and 2nd strip, after that - it kinda goes numb.

after waxing, use REGROWTH MINIMISER. (Superdrug £5) its like a cold cream. feels good after waxing and over a period of time you can see a real difference in the regrowth.

Why go to all the hassle of making it yourself? :nono:

Another tip. The strips you get with the wax, you’re supposed to wash and re-use. but have you ever tried it? its like the worst job ever. Go to a cloth shop, cheapest cotton - maybe 50p a metre, get one yard and cut into strips, and bin em. out of one yard of material, you’l get loads strips

Re: Waxing Kits

what type of fabric do you need to buy? cotton?

Re: Waxing Kits

yeh i did say cotton. :)

Re: Waxing Kits

Mem Saab wheres Bodycare?
Someone told me to buy wax from Sally's? i usually make it at home, cotton is good, but a pair of old jeans is much better...usually my brothers:)

Re: Waxing Kits

oppps i missed that
