Re: Waterbirth.
waterbirths are in large pools- you can rent them online from companies dealing in those. you can set it up at home or in hospital.
you start off in the bathtub in your house and then you get into the birthing pool when its close to pushing time.
as with most homebirths, you are attended by a midwife in this case, although some hospitals like mount sinai and women’s college in toronto offer birthing pools too.
supposedly when you are free floating in water and buoyant, it helps you deal with the pain a lot better than lying down on your back.
with a water birth though you don’t have the option of an epidural so you have to ride it out once it starts.
the gross part about it is that you are in the pool with the baby and all the muck/stuff that accompanies a birth.
however, its also supposed to be gentler on the babies since they go from water to water. mama, i think you scoop them up ASAP so its not like they’re under for more than a few seconds, plus, babies are natural swimmers, aren’t they?
