Waterbased products

I recently had a much needed facial as I havent gone to a skin care specialist in an eternity, and the the lady told me I need to switch my makeup because I have a very oily t-zone and so I should be using waterbased products. That came as quite a surprise as I’ve always used products for DRY skin. I’ve always thought I had dry skin because my lip area, cheeks, and chin get super dry but obviously its more of a combination skin type and I guess I should pay attention to what she’s telling me cuz she is the expert after all. I have no idea what water based products are or how to control this tzone shine and oiliness. Anyone have products they recommend or tips on how to get this oil in control?

U're t-zone is dry.. are u're cheeks/forehead and nose oily? Do u breakout often as well? Use products made for combination skin instead of products made for either oily/dry skin.

Re: Waterbased products

It definitely sounds like you have combination skin. Another thing to keep in mind is that your skin can change depending on hormones, weather etc so oily skin can change to dry and vice versa as you get older or if the weather changes.

Before we recommend anything - what are you using right now?

The most important thing actually is the type of lotion you're using. What products do you use now, and how often do you use them?

Re: Waterbased products

Ok I alternate between two creams everyday.... sometimes its just a vitamin e cream and other daysit oil of olay active hydrating cream for sensitive skin... I put this on right after using my facial scrubber and facewash.... after the creams comes my daily makeup consisting of foundation and mineral loose powder.

Hi Skittlez,

Okay - the Vit E cream is probably okay (I might check the label to see if it's oil based). Oil of Olay does make oil-free products, so you should check to see if the moisturizer you're using is oil free or not.

The foundation is key too - since it is usually the heaviest thing on your face. What brand are you using? Most brands make different versions of foundations: Oil free, anti-aging, etc., so it might be worth your while to explore more in their line. I can tell you more once I know what brand you use.

Are you using a liquid or cream foundation?

Depending on how much coverage you need from your foundation, you may want to try something like Bare Escentuals. This is a mineral based foundation which is similar to the loose powder you use, but basically would be a one step thing instead. This is much gentler on your skin and works really well for combination & oily skins.

For mineral make-up, I would recommend Bare Escentuals over most others: their product quality is higher than other mineral make-up and holds up well. Plus, you can blend the colors for a custom match to your skin tone. Their brushes are high quality and last a while.

Hope this helps!

It's hard to use an oil/cream based foundation for u're dry area's and a water-based one for the oily zones..it's better if u buy one that's made for combination skin or normal skin.

Just use u're powder where u tend to shine the most.. the powder absorbs oil (from the foundation) and could make u're skin dry.. just dab powder to u're oily area's and leave the rest of u're face out.

Stick to one skincare regime.. if u scrub everyday cut-down to 2-3 times a week
