Water filters

Are water filters such as Brita any good or effective?

Any personal experiences?

Re: Water filters

They are effective especially if you live in a hard water area, but over time the filter cartridges can work out pretty costly and it's a hassle having to fill up the jug all the time and using only that water.

Where I live now is has very hard water so I have a water filter on the mains water line instead. Although even that has ongoing runing costs as you have to fill it with block salt tablets every month but they are still much cheaper in comparism to buying the filter cartridges.

Re: Water filters

I don't like water filter jugs because it's a hassle to refill the jugs and especially since they come in such weird shapes and sizes, they won't be able to fit in the side compartment of the fridge.

I was thinking of faucet mounts and I'd only seriously think of getting it if it actually works. Else, I see no use.

As for the quality of water, it tastes good, but we recently had a free test done by some company (that was dying to sell us their services) and they concluded that our water is a little hard.

Re: Water filters

Anothet advantage of the kind of filter that I have is that cleaning the bathroom is so much more easier as you don't have those annoying hard water marks on your chrome and tiled surfaces. It's worth getting one for that alone in my opinion.

Re: Water filters

I never thought of the water marks in bathroom.

I guess I may eventually get one for kitchen sink and it if works, then I may get a few more.

Did you notice any drastic difference in the water quality and taste? Also, what brand is it that you have installed?

Re: Water filters

You notice the difference in the water taste right away, it feels smoother and more silkier.

Not sure about the brand, if you're in the UK then I can PM you the details of the company who installed it.

Re: Water filters

I reside in Canada. Thanks for the help though.

Re: Water filters

Sadiyah, sometimes the tap water tastes fine and sometimes i could feel the calcium in it..i have tried the jug ones mostly because the tap filters doesn't fit our apartment taps. I have tried almost everyone one of them available from brita to maxx and what not. Usually i don't feel the difference but two days back i was running to college so i filled my water bottle with the tap water and to tell you the truth i didn't liked the taste. I plan to install a big filter in the basement when i move into the house in the future inshAllah because apparantly that water is not only good for drinking, its good for your skin and specially hair and it also saves your detergent powder as well. But those house filters are expensive so the companies that install them have montly plans..and i have a feeling that one of those companies visited your place, isn't it?

Re: Water filters

Qurius, well it was a company, but I got no clue what it is that they wanted to install/offer because we never bothered listening to them. We just got the test done as it was free of charge.

LOL I doubt that my family would want to get one installed in the basement, but I may get one for the kitchen faucet as that is what we mainly use for water.

Btw... water in sauga tastes horrible anyway, so it's a must have for you guys :p

Re: Water filters

My housemates and I use brita, you can really taste the difference. I would recommend it, although it's kinda expensivo (well, at least to me) but it's worth it.
