i may sound like a broken record but who should take action against these ppl? you? me? or the government? last i read government was too busy locking up civilians all over the country while the *******s were taking over swat. if this menace is not government's responsibility to take out then whose is? army is the government and they are making deals left and right to stay in power. they have given inadequate resources to the government officials in northen areas that they can't even stand up to the local extremists and thus giving away ground so easily. seems like there is no concrete plan on governments agenda to fight the extremism. from wht i've read and seen, mushy will let this situation get worse and worse until its out of control and then he'll come out with another speech to calm the masses. its not like u can just get up and take over an area the size of swat. it must have been going on for sometime but sadly government was too busy playing its own flute that it let it slip under the rug. even now its not too late but i don't believe any stern action will be taken to root out these extremists from swat. and with a gem of amendment in the army constitution to try civilians for court-maritals, forget that they'll come out on streets and do anything whether for government/against. just like emergency went unnoticed by the majority, just like that swat will be forgotten too, very soon.

^ The reports are slow coming out of these areas as they aren't allowing journalists near the area, and of course, since journalists are having massive problems with trying to avoid being locked up and all.
I think I read some reports here in another thread about there being a full out plane attacks on these areas at the moment.

Why you? I didn't get the link between Indian RAW and terror in Swat, but maybe this would take the discussion on to a new level.

What the govt. needs to do to make emergency a success in the month that's left of it, is to just infiltrate the taliban and using the Intelligence machinery, choke them from inside out. But then again, does the intelligence really wanna clean the slate....?......
these retards have gone beyond the means of 'lingual understanding' what they need is the 'physical' type to get the message through to them that this is a muslim country, not a jihadi battlefield that they seem to wanna make it.

I know plenty of people from swat and people who cover the area from a journalistic point of view. To be brief this problem has been brewing for over a year now but thanks to the governments policy of neither here nor there, what could have been sorted out in days will now take months if not longer (and perhaps if it all)

no need to get emotional...this friend...did he witnessed the slaughter himself or he too heard it from some1 else? its very easy to spread false info like this when there is so much chaos and uncertainty all around.
as for losing mind, lets not forget we read / see such stuff every day, whether its in pak (if happening), afghanistan, iraq, palestine, kashmir, Chechnya, etc. you are over reacting bcos it happened (if) to some1 u know / are related to. but we tend to ignore those who had gone through the same ordeal but are not related to us thus their suffering means nothing.

first : whether we agree or don't, madman mushy didn't do anything years ago, or months ago or weeks ago. so us agreeing on anything means nothing.
2nd: BB is not in power, immy is not in power...who is in power? my guess is as good as yours. to be in power for more than 8 years, this is where he stands on his war on terrorism, losing areas of pakistan. wht the hell is our army doing? killing innocent civilians while terrorists are free to do whatever they want to do. BB, immy or any other political leader maybe be the right person to fight terrorism BUT lets not get carried away and assume MUSHY will do a better JOB. after 8years of dictatorship and barbaric policies, we are now losing parts of pak thanx to madman mushy's incompetency.

Our friend witnessed at least a good part of the throat-cutting of 13 randomly selected males whose ages were from less than 10 to adulthood. Whether I know him or not, the mere thought of a person having their throat cut is just beyond horror. Have you ever watched an Eid animal have their throat cut? Imagine if it were your SON. Or your husband. My goodness gracious. The horror of that goes beyond most anything else I've ever heard, even beyond that of 9-11. How can you say "no need to get emotional"?? SOMEONE has to!! IMHO.

why condemn the taliban? why not condemn america first? there are so many people, groups and countries to condemn. are we condemning the taliban because of what we feel is wrong/right or because america is telling us to do it? sadly for pakistan the latter is more appropriate.

There is a lot to be said about whats going on in Swat. For more indepth coverage of whats going on in Swat there are other forums targetting Pashtuns with very detailed ideas about Swat - you might not be able toread most commens as they are a mixture of Pashtu and Bad English LOL unless you can read these languages then you have no problem.
I hate the idea of Swat or any other place becoming a fundamentalist state but quite frankly these militants have been building up for a few months. Some locals will accuse the Pak Gov and Army’s lack of interest in the issue as a sign of their support to the militants. What that would achieve other than an open invitation to America to bomb some tribal belt I have no idea. There are lots of conspiracy theories.
Maulanah Alam must be blind - virtually every lady in Swat covers her face (those that you see without head or faces covered or outsiders which dont tend to visit much outside of Summer and who owuld have long left by now). Who made this man the person to give out wraths? This perosn should be reminded he is neither God nor any special person.
It would take more than 3 days to grow a beard which s at least the ussual fist length ful they prefer. Since when was it compulsory for a man to keep a beard?
Women in Swat are not really known for sunbathing by the Swat river or frequenting the hundreds of night clubs dotted all over - why is this silly man restricting the movement of female, when 99% are already restricted?
A friend of mine from Swat had lahori guests visiting and when he took them out in Mingora (when militants were taking over) he had to keep diverting as he did not want the militants to see the female with her face uncovered.
A friend of mine got engaged from Swat and a month ago her family had to invite the jeweller home so they could select something for their new daughter-in-law-to-be. They did the rest of the shopping in peshawar. What these militants are doing is killing the economy of Swat, which if affects next summers tourist season - Im sure there will be hell to pay.

The tribes of Torwal (Bahrain),Kalam and Utror refused to accept Taliban’s administration in their areas.
They invited Taliban commanders and conveyed Jarga's message. The interesting message is “We will accept Sharia laws with out any hesitation if you implement it in the rest of the valley. Now the police stations and other govt. installations will be in our custody. Taliban should not come onward.”
The Taliban are now active in Pashto speaking areas and kostani speaking areas are free from their influence.
