Watching Satellite channels in Melbourne???

Planning to Watch Zee + PTV channels but have found out that Zee is now on the decoder and only company which leagely proviesd the zee channels in Australia is Vision Plus.

but they charge $50/month (plus $500 + installation) for 4-5 channels only, i.e. ZEE, Zee movies , Sony , Star TV.

just wondering if any guppie in Melbourne/ Australia is getting above channels by any means other than Vision plus. i.e. OWn dish + Decoder + subscription card ???

if so from where and how to renew the cards???

Well u r askin for almost the impossible ..... if u r ready to do some hardwork u may get some desi channels for free ..... but it depends where u live (i know u live Melbourne) .... what i mean is what surrounds u r house/apartment ???? Trees, other Houses or any kind of Object that's hindering the sight towards North-West ????

U may able to receive the PanAmSat 7/10 located at 68,5°East but the elevation is only 2.37° .... means the dish is almost parallel to ground ..... what u need is FREE SIGHT for some km/miles !!!! (not meters/yards) ..... a 8 foot - 10 foot dish with a C-Band LNB ..... An Irdeto decoder (if u r looking for Pay TV) but there r Geo, ARY, DD and YTN free on this Satellite ..... the NZ ODI's in PAK u can watch free & live on GEO via this Satellite ..... For PAY-TV purposes u may contact someone from ur friends/relatives in Pak (in LH, ISB, KAR) where they may provide u a card MCA (Multi Choice Africa) ..... MCA uses the PanAmSat 7/10 located at 68,5°East and provides a number of Desi channels such as Zee, B4U etc. etc.

thanks zero_one,

In Aus we can get PTV from Asia Sat 3S 105.5E , where as Zee channels can be seen through either by Asia Sat 3S 105.5E or by Optus B3 105.0E(going to Optus C-1) now.

In Aus only one company got the rights for Zee (leagely) Vision Plus, and they get their signal from Optus B3 (will be changed to OPtus C-1)

Strange thing is that both satellites use completly different types of digital encoding

Asia Sat 3S 105.5E = DVB Mediaguard

Optus B3 105.0E = Irdeto 2

Now i was thinking that as in pakistan we normally get Zee/Star/PTV Signal from Asia Sat 3S 105.5E so a decoder card used in pakistan can be used in Australia as well ... right ???

coz over all its still the same seatellite :)
