Watching movies with parents in the room...a perilous journey *grin*

This post was lengthy but I shortened it.

Every now and then I like to see a movie or two.

Mom watches 24 hours of Home and Garden TV. Dad, CNN. sigh

I dont know how to get in a movie or two on weekends. I feel guilty for changing the channel. Most of the movies I watch tend to be rated PG 13 or R, and parents approve of G or PG. Even movies like My Big Fat Greek Wedding or Matrix are not considered good movies to them.

I also like to watch other stations like Discovery, National Geo, etc, but they dont seem keen on them recently.

How to explain, or should I just give in? Is it right to ask such a thing of parents? Thanks.

u go watch it with ur friends..
waisay my parents usually dont watch tv.. which is good for us cuz then we ( m n my brother) can watch whatever we want :D

There is sharm-o-hayaa that is instilled in desies which I think is good thing but there comes a time in your life when you and your parents should start treating eachother like friends. Your parents should see you as an adult and you shouldn't blush when a kiss is shown on TV. Let me remind you that we are in the year 2003 :-p. Plus, you are not a kid anymore and I am sure our parents have grown up and they understand. :-p

It's not even about the kiss.

I like watching programs on Egyptology but sometimes I feel that my parents dont always appreciate such programs, so often times I change the channel, other times I leave it and interest is shown.

Kya karein? I would like to have freedom of choice in certain things and I just dont know if its appropriate to bring it up. I've had a relatively strict upbringing in terms of manners, etc.

:smack:

sigh..u have such problems at 36?...tsk tsk..

I believe many parents never see their children as older than 15, and I am not 36. grin

hehe, at my house its either bbc or sports with my dad. God forbid there should be a golf tournament on, or my mum and I are tortured for days.

In the evenings, its zee tv, sony and indian channels which my mum has to watch, so my dad has to watch too.

Yes I am constantly arguing with them, especially my dad, because I still want to watch mtv  or other channels.

theyre always telling me I watch bakwaas on tv, coz of all the nudity on mtv, but then when they put on their indian channels i tell them its just as bakwaas as mtv.

Munni

get your own Tv, put it in your room and watch it there :)
sometimes it is just an issue of interest and what one wants to see. my dad would probably be bored if i am watching an F1 race or an american football game, just like i get bored after 5 mins of a pakistani drama which ammi loves..

solution 2 TVs, u can have together time and u can have alone time watching your discovery channel etc.

Munni i agree with Fraudz…get ur own TV :d:k:

i am not that much of a TV buff so usually i dont care whats on TV but i dont think i’ve ever asked my dad to change the channel tho i feel OK asking mom n bros

never watch tv alone… :nono:
lots of fitna…:nono4:

Munni I get the movies on VCDS and play em on my PC with my head phones :d

Yeah it's silly cause most of the intelligent thought provoking tv or movies are gonna have stuff your parents are gonna go hysterical over. lol

I mean come on you watch a love story how can you not expect there to be some lovin eventually lol My mom always wants to watch one.. then she complains !

humaysha asay kyoo karthay?!

My parents are not so bad about kissing and such but if there is even the slightest hint they're gonna take it further they suddenly panick and start flipping channels lol

Which is ok cause I don't think I'd want to be in the same room watching love scenes with them.. that'd be too wierd.

But it means I gotta be really careful about what movies I bring home.. and often mom wants to watch too. For example my mom wanted to see American Beauty and I had to tell her no you don't want to watch that ! lol

and then she asked why? lol

It was like telling a little kid..

There are many really great movies out there I feel they should see ..cause they watch such stupid crap on tv.. the worst stuff ever.

For example I'd love for them to see Schindler's List or Amistad.. intelligent movies that give you a more realistic perspective on life... maybe something you
can discuss with them later ..

but nope I gotta bring home disney and children's stuff. And then they ask how come you always watch just cartoons lol

duh! cause it's the only thing you 'kids' can watch lol

lolz
yehi hota hey waqas

I've finally got it solved. I've brought the tv set in my room, with cable connection and put the old set in tv lounge which has got the antenna connection with it. My dad just likes to watch news, so he can watch news all day long while I can watch whatever I want...

Thats teh only solution Munni... 2 tvs

my parents even now object to me watching tv after 8 LOL … its because after that bayhooda stuff comes on… i dont watch tv any way… i have alot of intrest in discovery channel and animal stuff .. i find it really intresting… this intrest was fueld by ami jaan because wasnt allowed to watch other stuff when i was younger… but now i really enjoy info type programs…

as far as when there is a kiss on tv yes i blush the hell out of me (hope u dont think of me any differently BOSS bahi :stuck_out_tongue: ) … and yes catso my parents probably would object to me watching mtv bass if they knew i watch it lol  … to be honest with the type of crap on zee tv etc ham to woo bhi dekhnay say gay… with the bayhoodgi and all.

wasay i have to say since i have gone uni i have maybe watched 30 mins of tv a day if that even… it truley is a waste of time … having satalite and cable tv doesnt help :stuck_out_tongue:

oh yea did i forget to mention the romance scenes r just so uncomfortable with the parents … usually i only have to suffer for a second .. the channel gets changed… with the friends its another story LOL

Yeah You need to get your own TV. My kids watch cartoon all day on the big TV downstairs and I watch my soaps in my bedroom.

I have a TV in my bedroom but I never use it cause it doesnt have dish as the living room one does. I dont think its worth it to get dish for a few hours a month of tv viewing.

A lot of the programs I watch are "educational" so its the fact that I basically cant watch what I want, without noticing uneasiness from my parents. Although like I said, I do put on stuff that they end up liking, but they just want the HGTV and CNN. sigh

I cant standddddddd kissing scenes in movies. Parents or friends around, its simply gross. eeeekkkk

are u sure they're watching cartoons while ur indulging in ur soaps? ;)

Well thank God we have seperate tv's with local cable on both. Its always ptv upstairs and cable in the basement, luckily all us kids agree on the show we want to watch and there isn't much fuss. We do not watch movies with them around. If ppl get cosey on tv we just change the channel! I used to get all panicky b4 in an attempt to change the channel, but now i can handle it.

mere jaan munni
how old are u again :konfused: ??

me and my mom are so open with each other we talking abt michael jackson being gay and wat not … i luv my amee jan
