Wata sata

I heard thisfrom a friend that wata sata is haram?? ...... is that true??? ...... cos desisdo that al the timr.......n if it was haram they would be doing that.........

Not haram if done with mutual understanding, else it will be regarded a bad practice.

**Well I read on GS many years back where these two Families in Faisal Abad

that each had 3 Boys and 3 Girls and they all inter Married,

later on one of the six Marriages fell apart!

but that had a Domino Affect and all the rest Also fell apart.........six homes destroyed by Watta Satta

Not Good Practice at ALL!**

As far as I know, it's not haraam.

Bourjo, forget that na. Tell us more about your friend. does she wana franshap?

I?m not familiar with the term. What is it?

As others mentioned, never heard that its haraam and most likely its not.

Now its a good practice or not, thats a social debate. Nothing to do with religion.

There is nothing wrong with it per se. Though what I have heard about these types of arrangements is that the parents might work out some deal between themselves about the mahr amounts and waive them in this type of arrangement. That is wrong from an Islamic perspective.

A case in my own family. Two cousin brother & sister had that kind of marriage arranged for them when they were little. After growing up, they didn't like the ones their marriage was arranged with by their parents so by mutual understanding the arrangement (which was only verbal) was broken. Both cousins now happily married to partners of their own choice.

Peace @bourjois

Wata-Sata known in English as “Quid Pro Quo Marriage” or “Exchange Marriage”, in Arabic (Islamic terms) known as “Nikah Al-Shiqhaar”. Below I quoted only one hadith. There are many which you may find in the link given below.

**Narrated Ibn `Umar: “Allah’s Apostle forbade Ash-Shighar, which means that somebody marries his daughter to somebody else, and the latter marries his daughter to the former without paying Mahr.” **

Book Wedlock (Marriage / Nikah) Hadith No. 5168
