Wasim Akram although a great cricketer was always a dubious character. As they say a person is innocent until proven guilty we can safely assume thanks to Qayyum's report that Wasim is guilty.
I think PCB has done the right thing but shunting him out. He should have been thrown out of the team during his playing days. Nobody is bigger than the game and winning should not be so important that we trade our ethics for it.
I don't like the guy at all. If Indians want him then they can have him. One less CHOR and SATTAY BAAZ to worry about. Although he might start betting as a coach as well. Old habits die hard :-)

He has definitely been a controversial character and he might have thrown away a game or two ( many of us would have done the same in similar circusmtances, we are one of the most corrupt ones remember???) but do you think Pakistan cricket would be same without Wasim Akram's contributions????
You can call him CHOR and SATTAY BAAZ (it's your opinion) but he deserves respect and if you are a REAL Pak cricket fan, you will be disappointed with Akram but still LOVE him for what he has done for Pakistan.

First of all mysterious guy it is not my opinion as you put it. It has been proven in the court of law. I usually don't pass judgements like that unless i have something to back them up with. So there.
Now let us examine what Wasim has given Pakistan and what he has taken away from us.
Let us start with the stats. No doubt he has been one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time. That has brought him fame and fortune and at the same time given Pakistanis reason to be proud. He has won us many games thru his genius but don't we expect all of our players to win matches for us? Some are no doubt more talented than the others. If they are not good enough to win us games or contribute then they should not be in the team right? This is basic logic be it a game or work. You pull your weight and if you become a burden you are shown the door. So has he done us favors by winning us matches? Or has he done his job for which he got fame, fortune, millions of fans and a thankful nation? He is BTW not the only match winner we had or will have. Imran, Javed, Zaheer, Waqar, Saqlain, Afridi and the list goes on and on have won us matches on many occasions. So as per your argument all these guys have a license to cheat every now and then?
Now let us look at the other side of the coin. The guy was found guilty as per the enquiry conducted by a justice. So this is not my opinion dear friend. Let us add a few more feathers to his cap
1. Proven cheat and fined in a hushed up enquiry
2. The mirjuana incident
3. Premature sidelining of Waqar Younis
4. Fragmenting the team
5. He has not been among the most successful captains of Pakistan
I don't think any of these brought glory to Pakistan. Do you?
If I am to look at your argument it says "IT IS OK TO CHEAT A FEW TIMES AS LONG AS YOU DON'T DO IT ALL THE TIME". With this mindset i don't think i can ever convince you or people like you. So according to you since we are a nation of cheats (corrupt) as you put it, it is ok to condone such behavior and as a matter of fact we should show respect to people who cheat but only a little bit. Hell you never know maybe tomorrow we might have to cheat. Well what an argument I am convinced and exhonerate Wasim Akram of all wrong doings. He is my hero now. Thanks Mysterious- guy you have opened my eyes and I will not be an "Ehsan Faramoosh" anymore.
Do we have such a dearth of heroes that we now need to show respect and awe for proven cheats like Wasim Akram becuase at some point in their life they brought us honor. With him at the helm I lost all interest in Pakistan cricket for i was always unsure if we won or lost fairly or was it just a fixed match. Many non-cheats following the game felt the same way.
He is a great cricketer no doubt but the fact remains that he is a tainted player and will remain so forever. No CHEAT can be a Pakistani hero in my book.
For me Rana Ifthikhar is a bigger hero than Akram will ever be. With Rana I know he is playing for the love of the country and will not sell its honor for a few silver coins (or at least i hope for now)

I have already explained that he is by no means a perfect role model and he wasn't the only one to do this satta baazi, some of them got caught and some got away with that.
2. The mirjuana incident
He wasn't a drug addict was he??? He was being a stupid kid who got out of Pakistan and found a new way to have fun (just like most desis do when they go overseas), was he the only one to do that?? Just for your information, the others caught with him were Waqar Younis, Aaqib Javed (Nice guy), Mushtaq Ahmed (Maulana).
3. Premature sidelining of Waqar Younis
One of the worst thing Wasim could have done but premature sideline wasn't totally because of Wasim Akram, Waqar was NEVER the same bowler after that injury. Akram was unfair to Waqar and he admitted his mistake as well but premature sidelining of waqar is an overstatement.
4. Fragmenting the team
We have ALWAYS had this problem, tell me any captain who never had this sort of problem. Javed, Malik, Latif, Moin, Inzi, Waqar, even Imran etc.
5. He has not been among the most successful captains of Pakistan
What are you talking about??? He is one of our MOST successful captain EVER, his record as a captain is almost as good as Imran's.

It's just that there are too many conspiracy theories in Pakistan, there was a time when Pak public will blame players of "Satta Baazi" almost EVERY time we lost:

Considering that Wasim Akram was the one who brought him in the limelight in the first place, and also that Nazir was nowhere close to the talent of the two W’s, the conspiracy theory looked weak, but was nonetheless there.
I am not a Waqar hater by any means, i consider him one of our legends but he has been accused of keeping a talented bowler out (alongwith Wasim) of the team because of jealousy, he also got caught smoking marijuana, some also accused him of match fixing and he got caught tampering with ball as well, NOW i still consider him as our HERO but he isn't a hero if we go by your theory, is he???

Mysterious guy: Thanks for the posts. I enjoyed reading them. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I guess we can respectfully learn to argue and hold our point of views.
For me it is simple that anyone whether it is Wasim or Anwar caught cheating should be dealt with firmly. These people play the sentiments and aspirations of millions of well wishers like myself and you who put faith in their abilities to bring us honor.
Let me be clear WASIM is not the only one i hate, i hate all those players Pakistanis and non-Pakistanis that sell their country's honor for money. Even if they have done it only once.

When was the last time he actually visited Pakistan team. Pakistan gave him everything he has. He hasn't done $hit for Pakistan cricket since he retired. Hell he didn't do $hit when he was in the team...
He was a great BOWLER.

Just look at some of his records and you will see why his contribution is IMPOSSIBLE to ignore regardless of what damage he caused:
TESTS:
Man of the match: 17 times which is most number of MOM's in the WORLD by any cricketer. It means that he has contributed to Pak wins or draws in tests more than any other cricketer in the WORLD ( Yes more than GREAT Sachin, Lara, Richards, Imran Khan, Inzi, Ambrose, Waugh and even McGrath).
ODI's
Man of the match: Again, he has been awarded MOM award 21 times in ODI's which brings his overall haul of MOM's to 38 making him one of the MOST valuable players ever to play cricket for ANY country.
Now i only mentioned these to remind you the importance of his contributions to Pakistani cricket, i am not even talking about those 914 wickets, countless knocks, magic with ball, hattricks etc etc etc.

I do understand your point and i HATE those who are unloyal to their country as well but yaar we are talking about cricket here, Shane Warne is one of the worst behaved player EVER to play cricket but at the same time he is one of the LEGENDS of cricket and everyone respects him as a CRICKETER.

mysterious guy I think you are mixing things here. As Rational mentioned no doubt Wasim was one of the great bowler in the history of cricket but there is nothing bigger than your country. When people talk about Wasim they automatically know oh yeah that great bowler from Pakistan. It was Pakistan who gave him fame, name and everything but he betrayed Pakistan.
One can argue saying he gave so much to the country, true he won us so many matches but he was getting paid for, its not like he was doing the job for free.
You know Imran never liked Javaid but when they both played for Pakistan they put Pakistan ahead of them. Akram was a good bowler but not a good Pakistani.
I bet he will pick to coach India if he is given the option to coach Pakistan or India, just because of the paycheck. Who cares to be honored to coach his own country but very honored to get a big paycheck.
