Wasim Akram and Diwali

Yesterday, I was very disappointed to see Wasim Akram wishing Diwali to all his Indian fans during a commercial break in ESPN Cricket Show with Harsha…

now, being a muslim and a pakistani, he shouldn’t have done that…it is so sad to see a great legend doing things like these…and i am sure, someone will sue him for this in pakistani court very soon…

It is churlish of you to think like that. Wishing each other on Diwali and Eid does not mean we are less muslim or hindu, but more human and worthy of friendship. Wasim has many fans and friends in India so leave him alone, stop treating him like a kid who needs to be told what to do!

Great. Next you know you cant say Merry Christmas, or even happy Easter. For gods sake man, sports is sports. Stop trying to corrupt it.

Plus under what legal precedence can you sue. Such stupidity is only possible Pakistan. You can watch Indian movies but you cant say Happy diwali.

well then maybe you should ask your president and prime ministers to stop sending greetings to other countries on Christmis and other religious occasions. That someone could take such a narrow view of the situation baffles me.

Muslims and Hindus living together on Indian sub-continent have been wishing each other on religious occassions for centuries. So this is nothing new or out of the ordinary. I can only hope that your views do not represent those of the majority.

it would be stranger if he was wishing happy ramadan to our hindu brothers

I can't believe I am reading such drivel here. C'mon people, wake up (or rather grow up). I'd love to see the trial if this ever gets to court ... maybe you, knightofhearts, should start the legal action against Wasim... maybe then you'll realize how stupid this all is!!!

Can we please stop making these idiotic remarks, it makes us Pakis all sound stupid.

Someone like you may be but i dont see anything bad in that. Allah ask us to respect everyone's religion. When we dont mind president bush greeting all muslims for Ramdan how can we mind Wasim wishing a happy dewali to indians?

considering the replies, i think this thread needs to be moved to religion, coz Islam doesnt allow us these luxaries....and what do u ppl mean when u say leave sports alone....religion has impact on every field of life...

Yeah but he is not converting to Hinduisim is he.
What is the harm for congratulating someone for a holiday.
Its not going to change anything.

There is no harm in sending greetings to people of other religions on their special ocassions. To say that Akram should be sued, gives an incorrect and narrow vision of Islam. Like someone said previously, we should then sue our President and PM for sending greetings to other heads of state on their religious occassions as well.

I think most people have said the right thing in this thread and it is being closed as it does not serve any further useful purpose.
