Washing Make up brushes/sponges etc

Can anyone recommend how I can wash my make up brushes/sponges a) to make them last longer and b) so that they don’t smell in between washes.

At the moment, I soak brushes in shampoo and conditioner mix for a day and then dry them on the radiators or let them dry naturally. however, I must be doing something wrong as they tend to smell stale really quickly and I can smell a weird smell when I use certain brushes - this smell haunts me all day! :blush:

HELP!!!

try dishwasher!

make sure you put these brushes upside down so water is coming out instead of staying in and probably causing the smell! Also, let them dry naturally!

use mild baby shampoo only and add a few drops of tea tree oil if you have it.. then just let the brushes dry naturally.

What brand of brushes are you using?

i've mostly got Revlon ones for everyday use, some Boots own brand blusher brushes.

Also Boots own brand ones that come with the highlighting poweder and illumintaing powders

My sponges are Elizabeth Arden as is a loose powder brush

On youtube if you look up how to clean make up brushes they have a lot of great videos.

Use brush cleaner for the shampoo then rinse and let it dry.

^Definately agree. If not, the Body Shop (Grrr!) have a Tea Tree Make-up brush wash to clean and disinfect your brushes. Never tried it myself but heard it's good.

I tend to use a Makeup Brush Cleaner product - its reasonably priced and does the trick.

yeah agree with sanam... use makeup brush cleaner.. i think The Body Shop have some.

Honestly i just use plain old soap and water and let them dry naturally they smell great and I have never had a problem. Natural is the best way to go!

I soak mine in shower-gel and half a tsp of dettol =) and lay them on a towel to dry..

u guys dont need water to rinse them or just wash in the soap and dry seems weired to me :konfused:

Bacteria forms on sponges and brushes and shud be washed once a month =)
