Washer/dryer Questions

What are some good washers out there, brands that are more reliable? Anyone using HE (high efficiency) washers and dryers? What are the pros and cons of HE washer/dryer (from personal experience)? Are manual control washer/dryers better or digital? The online reviews are somewhat confusing… I am looking forward to some input from guppies living in states.

Thanks!

When it comes to washer and dryers, I am pretty old fashioned and go for the basic ones. We have a basic pair of Westinghouse brand top loader washer and front loader electric dryer. It is working great from last one and a half years, and does it's job well.

Re: Washer/dryer Questions

I haven't seen this brand anywhere (best buy, home depot, sears), where did you get it from?

I take it back. It's whirlpool, from Lowe's

Re: Washer/dryer Questions

we have Maytag and it's pretty good.

Washer/dryer Questions

Same as TLK Bhai, we've stuck with the simple/basic style. I've had my Maytag washer and dryer for 15 years now

I've heard a lot of complaints from friends and clients about the new LG fancy front loading washers (leaking issues)

Re: Washer/dryer Questions

Was at Lowe's for something else and saw a LG front loader for $599 ( originally $1100 ); if the reviews bear out, this is a very good deal. Sorry don't have the model number.

LOW

Re: Washer/dryer Questions

maytag maxima XL.

This is one of the top three performers (other two were LG wm8500hva, kenmore elite) as per the ratings at Consumer Reports Online . The performance score was based on washing performance, energy efficiency, water efficiency, capacity, gentleness, noise, vibration and cycle time.

we’ve had it one year and no issues … the amount of laundry that I do (both bed linens/comforters and regular clothing) …its definitely been put through its paces.

We recently purchased a washer & a dryer & my post partum brain won't let me recall what brand it was. It's on hold at Best Buy so I can't check the name right now but just wanted to add that gas dryers are more energy efficient than electric dryers. They use almost half the time to dry the same amount of clothes.

Also I vaguely remember the BB customer associate (& we might have gotten LG) telling us that LG has the best customer service out of all the major brands. They respond right away for any trouble shooting & are the most easiest to work with when it comes to warranties.

Also Best Buy will match any other store's price as long as it's not just online. For instance they won't price match Amazon or Overstock but Sears, Lowe's, Home Depot etc.

Re: Washer/dryer Questions

Sears in our experience has bad customer service.

Re: Washer/dryer Questions

Thank you guys! We ended up getting a LG washer/dryer from home depot.
It will be delivered in Dec inshahallah. I will update on the performance once we start using it.

Bint, gas dryer is efficient, but most of the homes don't have gas dryer connections anymore. @khattichic may confirm.

Also, aren't gas dryers little dangerous? I mean we should have less and less of open flames in the house, no?

Re: Washer/dryer Questions

We have LG, and its great!

Re: Washer/dryer Questions

We have LG and works great. No issues since lat 4 years.

Most of the detergent are now marked at "HE" but to be honest I have not noticed any difference in cleaning. Only difference is that it has a physiological advantage and we use less of it :)

TLK Bhai we had to pay 500 bucks just to get an additional gas line in our laundry room. We figured it was worth the cost in the long run. But then we were building the house from ground up so we could practically do any changes as we desired. Don’t know what the new norm is.

Never thought about the danger part. Something to think about. But then after cooking on an electric stove for 6 years I am also looking forward to a gas stove. Heck I even got an additional gas line in the patio for an outdoor kitchen in the future.

Re: Washer/dryer Questions

We also bought the following combo from Lowe’s at BF sale. The total we paid for both including the necessary accessories was around 1100/- so a very good deal IMO. It was on sale, we also had a 20% off coupon and we also got and extra 100$ discount on each by selecting the white color instead of Merlot. I have only done laundry twice but by far I am quite satisfied.
