There were slogans given by Muslim League like ‘Pakistan ka matlab kia La Ilaha Illallah’ besides ’ Bun ke rahe ga Pakistan, butt ke rahe ga Hindustan’. Yes religion was used as a basis for demand of separate states, but no one knew how the areas are going to be divided till 1947. It was never thought by anyone that areas would be separated like in current form. People were thinking to live with people from other religions. There was no concept that minority would have to migrate towards the area where there fellow brothers in religion would be in majority. So people were till the last movement were ready to live together until the riots began.

majority supporter of Pakistan were Hindustani muslims, they were most literate class of people but UP was always hindu majority, it amusing to find that people never thought what Pakistan meant partition of India or special rights for muslims, or loose federation like Allama thought, the tragic thing was their ancestor’s land was declared not for them. Though muslims continued to live in India bust best lot went to Pakistan leaving others who had no option than to move in into self made ghettoes for protection. it is tragic if some hindus break into the house of muslims in allahbad and say this is not his city anymore, muslim moves into ghetto but in Punjab it was almost complete swap of population:(
