Was Miandad Deprived of a World Record ?

Re: Was Miandad Deprived of a World Record ?

It is not only that. Imran showed tasub throughout his cricket career (and there is tasub in Pakistan cricket at various level anyhow, then and even today).

Well, tasub or no tasub (however you look at it), that is the perception and that perception is developed due to reasons.

Re: Was Miandad Deprived of a World Record ?

When I watched Miandad play,ethnicity never crossed my mind.He was my favourite cricketer.I like Imran too.He led from the front and made Pakistan a force to be reckoned with.On this occasion, though, my opinion is that he didn't make the right decision.

Re: Was Miandad Deprived of a World Record ?

uff I wish cricket n PA ko separate rakha jai, ppl who don’t support PTI have jumped here :smack2:

Re: Was Miandad Deprived of a World Record ?

I won’t call a Captain World class Captain or one who led team from front, if he played 38 matches (after Hyderabad incident), won 7, lost 6, and drew 25 matches … especially when that captain in his disposal had top bowlers (Wasim, Waqar, Imran) and top aggressive batsmen (including Miandad). I would call such Captain, defensive player hiding in his shell and always looking for draw. Result shows that, as he drew 25 out of 38 matches he Captained after Hyderabad incident.

Re: Was Miandad Deprived of a World Record ?

Sad that some bigots cant think beyond ethnicity, skin color, language or tribe.

Re: Was Miandad Deprived of a World Record ?

Saleem guys like you should only stay in PA please

The world says Imran Khan is the best captain ever so better keep your fake stats with your self and because we all know you are obsessed with :ik:

Re: Was Miandad Deprived of a World Record ?

^^^ Lagra hay chend logon ko sach (khara sach) bohut bura lagtaa hay ..:) ... I don't care, I love truth and do not hide behind bigotry full of subayeet (as some over here have). For me, figures speak louder than words and tells truth, so most important is saying truth that I am giving in figures ... that proves a lot ... and here it is:

Imran as Captain, after Hyderabad incident (after 4th match with India):

Pakistan under Imran (1882 -1992) …… won 7 … lost 6 ... and drawn 25:
SL = won 2 … lost 1
W-Indies = won 3 … lost 3
England = won 1 … lost 0
India = won 1… lost 0
Aus = Won 0 … lost 2

Though if we include results of pre-Hyderabad decision, result is much better ... played 48 ... Won 14 ... lost 8 ... draw 26

At the same time when Imran was doing selective captaincy (1984-93), whenever Miandad took over captaincy, Pakistan played without Imran and gave much better result (with same team minus Imran). Miandad result in parallel with Imran Captaincy was 21 matches, won 10 and lost 3 … drew 8.

Pakistan under Miandad (1984-1993) Won 10 … lost 3:
SL = Won 2 … lost 0
Eng = Won 3 … lost 1
NZ = Won 4 … lost 2
Aus = Won 1 … lost 0

Overall (Miandad): played 34 matches (1979-93), Won 14 … lost 6
SL = won 4 … lost 0
Eng = won 3 … lost 1
NZ = won 4 … lost 2
Aus = won 3 … lost 2
WI = won 0 … lost 1

Re: Was Miandad Deprived of a World Record ?

God damn people. You guys argue over everything. Please take your holier than thou attitude to PA.

Re: Was Miandad Deprived of a World Record ?

When a person only posts about selection/declaration of players from one city, u know how much his cricketing sense is.

Individual records mean nothing compared to records of the team.

Re: Was Miandad Deprived of a World Record ?

Btw ganguly declared when Tendulkar was on 194, there may be many more occasions like this.

Re: Was Miandad Deprived of a World Record ?

Even though double century could be only personal achievement for a player and no big deal for a country to be proud of, highest test score by a player is something to be proud of by country too. Anyhow, Captain in question was Dravid … and that decision was not taken lightly, even though Dravid kept sending message to Tandulkar to hurry for his runs (unlike Imran). Here is report:

Tendulkar felt let down by Dravid’s declaration: Wright

July 31, 2006 17:01 IST

A high voltage behind-the-scenes drama was sparked off in the Indian dressing room by Rahul Dravid’s abrupt declaration in the Multan Test, which left Sachin Tendulkar stranded only six runs short of a double century, the then coach, John Wright, has revealed.

Tendulkar, batting on 194 in the first Test against archrivals Pakistan, left no one in doubt that “he felt let down”, Wright says in his just-published book Indian Summers, disclosing for the first time the tense moments the Indian camp went through although publicly every effort had been made at that time to play down the controversy.

Acknowledging that the team management had a “hot potato on our hands”, the former New Zealand captain says he spent a sleepless night whereas captain Sourav Ganguly, who missed the Test because of an injury, was worried that the issue would snowball and end up dividing the team.

Wright says no one could be blamed in particular for the situation, which could have been avoided had he himself been able to convince Dravid to declare earlier.

“Midway through the final session, Dravid declared, as you do when you’re 675 for 5. What Indian captains don’t tend to do, however, is declare when Sachin Tendulkar is on 194 not out,” Wright writes in the book.

“The matter became a full-fledged sensation when Tendulkar told a press conference he was disappointed not to get his double century.”

Wright says had he been the captain, he would have declared a lot earlier, allowing Pakistan to face about 25 overs and with Tendulkar on about 170.

But the former New Zealand captain also points out that Tendulkar needed to “move on” after tea when things got slow.

“Dravid wanted less time in the field, but got caught a bit betwixt and between. At tea he told the batsmen he wanted 15 or 16 overs at the Pakistanis, and after tea a couple of messages went out. As I sat there watching the innings grind on, it crossed my mind that Tendulkar needed to get a move on,” Wright says.

“A final message went out saying they had one more over. Then Yuvraj got run out going for a quick single and Dravid called them in.”

The New Zealander says, "There was fault all round.

“I should have convinced Dravid to declare earlier and he should have grasped that it’s one thing to declare when a batsman’s 170 or 180, quite another when he’s 194. And Tendulkar should have pushed to get there quicker.”

Once Tendulkar publicly expressed his disappointment, Wright knew they had a “hot potato on our hands”.

“I talked to Dravid, who agreed that he had to have a chat with Tendulkar before things got out of hand. That combination of steeliness and serenity, so evident in Dravid’s batting, is the mark of the man: nothing fazes him. He’s a mature and intelligent individual; all the hype and fuss goes over his head because he can stand back and put the issue in perspective.”

As for Tendulkar, Wright says, "He felt let down.

"He’d been playing for India since he was 16; he’d stood up for his country in bad times and tough conditions, and often been the only man to do so. Having given so much for the team, over such a long period, he probably thought this was one time the team could give something back to him.

“Even the greatest have their goals and dreams and milestones, and a double century against Pakistan in Pakistan would have been a memory to treasure.”

Re: Was Miandad Deprived of a World Record ?

Funny that people have no reply to facts given by Saleem. The only they could do is to abuse or condemn someone proving things based on statistics.
There is ugly ta'assub in Pakistan cricket. Now it is not right if someone refuses to see it only because it favors his side.

Imran was and is at the forefront of that muta'assib lot in Pakistan. Be it cricket or politics.

Re: Was Miandad Deprived of a World Record ?

May be not.
Imran Khan. A racist bigot. His racism especially against Karachi showed off during his cricketing days and now in his politics.

This example of his bias against Miandad, one of the greatest batsmen Pakistan ever produced, is just one of many examples.

Re: Was Miandad Deprived of a World Record ?

Khawjey da gawah duddoo.

Any fan in the world will take teams win over an individual record any day.

Re: Was Miandad Deprived of a World Record ?

Karachi people have the God given to right to be racist and call everyone racist, they can always justify their hatred and racism by being racists. Anyone who even mentions this is also racist. Right?

Re: Was Miandad Deprived of a World Record ?

Sadly these two guppies always have to see everything from an ethnic angle and bring ethnicity in every debate and discussion. People like Altaf have poisoned their brain cells beyond repair. I pity such thinking

Re: Was Miandad Deprived of a World Record ?

And** it is not about quantity but quality.** Stats do not lie but they don't always tell the true story. Imran's win/loss ratio is low because he refused to lead Pakistan in a couple of series against weak opposition at home for instance that 3-0 whitewash of NZ would have been credited to him had he not opted out of the series after learning that Hadlee was not coming

Apart from the 2-1 series win in England in 1992, most of Miandad's series wins are at home. And Inzy has no away series win against a top test team. His best result being the 1-1 drawn series in India in 2005

Imran captained Pakistan in some of the toughest series in the 80s like the three test series against the best team of his time (West Indies), all of them were drawn 1-1. Thus had the proud record of never losing a test series against the mighty Windies as captain. But for some dubious home umpiring, Pakistan would have won the away series in the Caribbean 2-0 in 1988. In 1987 he became the first Pakistani captain (and to date the only one) to win a test series in India 1-0 (it was a 5-match series) and followed it up with Pakistan's first ever series win in England 1-0 (5-match series)

And Waqar played only a handful of tests under Imran's captaincy. He burst on to the scene in 1989-90 when IK was in the twilight of his career

And while I do not deny that there was professional rivalry between Imran and Miandad, guess who replaced Majid in the team when Imran finally dropped his out of form cousin. It was a Karachi player Mansoor Akhtar, a mediocre batsman, a home bully. Imran persisted with him for some reason and once even said that Mansoor was as talented as Viv Richards!!! kabhi kabhi Imran ki baatein meri samajh se bhi bahar thein. kahan Viv aur kahan Mansoor. There is absolutely no comparison. Mansoor wasn't even good enough to polish Viv's shoes.

I have not seen a better batsman than Viv Richards in my lifetime. He was simply awesome
