I was out shopping and saw money lying on the ground. I picked it up and gave it to customer service. This lady came up to me and said you could have put it in the donations to charity box.
What was the right thing to do? Its not my money but money lying on the ground is disrespectful to me. For me, handing the money to an authority like customer service was right. But, what should you actually do?

I wonder if she'd have said that if it had been her money left on the floor lol
You did the right thing imo.. If no-one comes forward it can always be put in the charity box later..
you were right. handing the money or the valuable to the customer service is the norm. the owner can ONLY call the customer service and often find their lost money or valuable. so, for the money or the valuable to be returned to the right owner, what you did was the right thing. however, if you found the money/valuable on the road, the better way would be to donate it anonymously on behalf of the owner whoever he/she may be.
I think you did the right thing. The owner of the money could drop by customer service later on. Hopefully the lady was just giving you the suggestion of giving it to charity and didn't intend to be rude. She can even choose to give it to charity herself if nobody comes to claim it. So, don't worry over it; it's really a non-issue.
