This account does not match with Colonel Rafi's book "Last 323 days of Bhutto", except for the part that he did not walk on his own feet but was taken (not on strecther) by couple of guards holding his feet and hands. Rafi was in charge of Bhutto's Death Cell during his captivity and his book is quite a well written book without any bias. He told it like a 3rd party observer. A must read I must say.

Col Rafiuddin's instance on the matter**
In his book Last 323 days of Bhutto, Lt-Col (retd) Rafiuddin writes in the chapter ‘The Last Moments’ that Mr. Bhutto’s hanging was carried out according to
orders and he does not mention any incident of torture or the presence of an unnamed “high military official” on the occasion. He writes that Mr. Bhutto was carried on a stretcher from the death cell to the gallows on the orders of the jail superintendent.

Begum Nusrat Bhutto's reaction for Col Raffiuddin's instance**
After the publication of this book by Jang Publishers in October 1991, Begum Nusrat Bhutto talked to a group of journalists at her residence in Islamabad.
According to the report of this discussion published in Daily Jang Lahore, on Dec. 12, 1991, Begum Bhutto described the book as a “pack of lies.” She said she could not say why Col. Rafi had tried to distort the facts. Mr. Bhutto, she believed, according to what she said was authentic evidence, was already dead when he was hanged.

Zia Government clarification**
A news item in The Pakistan Times of September 20, 1979, reads:-
“Mr. Bhutto was hanged to death in accordance with the law and was not tortured to death, a spokesman of the Punjab Prisons Department said in Lahore.
“If Begum Bhutto or anybody else had any doubts about the cause of death of Mr. Bhutto they could go and get the body examined by any number of doctors they liked, both Pakistani and foreign, to know the cause of death which, of course, would be by breaking of the neck.”

I was going to suggest exactly this that the body could have been independently examined......seems the Bhuttos do not prefer this in any case....

and its amazing that Begum Bhutto could never brought up that authentic evidence even when her own daughter was a PM.
The only nonjudicial act that happened in that hanging (apart from unfair trial) was that Mr Bhutto and his family were not given a 7 days notice prior to execution.

would a coward like Zia had allowed his body to be exhumed and post mortem carried out. Remember he didnt even let the family attend the funeral.

yes i also heard tht he was very weak thts y brought on strecher but still he body must have shown some movement if he was not dead
but isnt law state to be hanged the person should be checked n have medical examination if he is very weak n ill i think thn u cant hang

It was a simple case of generals or Bhutto, and the generals won, like they always do in Pakistan.

the link which muqawee shared its mentioned there tht all ladies saw him for the last time the person at the gravyard who told the story ask the offcials to let his family saw him n thn all villagers also saw the dead body for the last time

A common person (and by that I mean someone who is not part of executing prisoners) can never tell what are the signs of hanging.

Benazir and Nusrat were in Pindi under house arrest and he was buried in Gari Khuda Baksh in Sindh. They never saw him after he was murdered.

in my view it is better to blame top brass army officers for murder of ZAB rather than singling out Zia....
What policy zia accepted regarding afghanistan were inevitable......

Probably Mr Bhutto's first wife and his cousin Mumtaz Bhutto could get chance to see the dead body.

Oh no Ninja, that is a diff topic but I do not agree. Zia's afghan policy is why we have what we have, a nation (Pakistan) that is considered the most dangerous nation in the world.
