Re: Warne Tops the list of Signing fee receivers for IPL

Is it just me or is that a lot of money in Pakistani Rupees for our players!

not related to this, but I hope PCB sets up a retirement fund for ex-pakistani players (such as Basit Ali) so they have a good life style going as well! I mean they did represent Pakistan once you know

Re: Warne Tops the list of Signing fee receivers for IPL

I only agree with the top two cash awards on that list. How come Fleming is earning more than the likes of Murali, Kallis, Yousuf and Sangakkara who are all great players? Even Younis Khan, Mahela Jayawardene and Jayasuriya are better players than him. Fleming was a good captain for NZ but he’s a bit over-rated. His captaincy record is average at best…Don’t want to sound too harsh here but the distribution of money smacks of ‘gori-chamri complex’…the more gori the chamri the more dumri. We desis can never shake off this inferiority complex. Also an average player like Malik should not be that high up on that list

Re: Warne Tops the list of Signing fee receivers for IPL

malik being that high up on that list is pretty surprising
also no indian players mentioned?

some of the contracts are strange...warne 400,000 and murli 250,000
BCCI sucking some major white butt, i mean has a higher appeal but such a difference?

Re: Warne Tops the list of Signing fee receivers for IPL

Players like Malik, Butt and Akmal can be very successful in Indian domestic league. Besides he is captain of a current national side of a ICC member. IMO.

Re: Warne Tops the list of Signing fee receivers for IPL

Wow, what a waste of money on Malik. Amazing.

Re: Warne Tops the list of Signing fee receivers for IPL

Playing captain of an international team who happens to be a quality one-day player is a great boost for advertisers and sponsors! I think the price is not surprising for Malik. He is earning 100k extra by being captain.

Re: Warne Tops the list of Signing fee receivers for IPL

And apparently not doing anything else of significance, might I add. Dharti pe bojh captain.

hi

Re: Warne Tops the list of Signing fee receivers for IPL

^ Nah I am not talking about his contributions to Pak team. Was just presenting one of the reasons he might have gotten this extra money.

Give him time yar, he just might turn it around :) (chances are slim but there are)

Re: Warne Tops the list of Signing fee receivers for IPL

You are giving him too much credit here. Shoaib Malik is not a quality one-day player, just a good one; an average in the mid-30s is decent rather than great. Malik cannot justify his place in the test team as a player yet (plus his captaincy is dull, very Inziesque), so how can he then be captain? He only got the job by default anyway. Ideally it should be Younis Khan who should lead Pakistan in both formats. If the board is looking for some face-saving remedial measures in the short-term (seeing that they have appointed Malik captain unwisely till the end of 2008), they could appoint Younis Khan as test captain and Malik as one-day captain with a view to Younis Khan taking up both responsibilities in the long run; and certainly no later than 1.5 years or so before the next world cup in 2011.

Re: Warne Tops the list of Signing fee receivers for IPL

malik, IMO, is the best batsman we have produced after inzi and m.yusuf....

one match (or one series) stars like misbah can come and go but malik is pure class and technique....
plus he can bowl well and is an excellent fielder....

Re: Warne Tops the list of Signing fee receivers for IPL

*:rotfl: What? What did you say? Oh God, I expected this nonsense from you, and only you. Tell me this Mr. religion forum guy, have you ever seen him bat? Do you realize that his technique is probably the worst for any international batsman present today? You see his test average there; you should probably cut it into half because he has missed test tours like England and South Africa where bowlers would have eaten him alive for his club-level shuffling across and his inability to play bounce of the lowest degree. You insulted Misbah in that post of yours, and I really think you should apologize! The best batsman we produced after Yousuf is Younis (who should be captain of the side now, might I add, instead of this chooha who wouldn’t even be a part of the test side if he wasn’t captain).

P.S: Your “allrounder” hardly bowls now because of his shoulder/watta action. I would rather have Afridi in the test side thank you very much.*

Re: Warne Tops the list of Signing fee receivers for IPL

Those were jokes right ?Oh,Game dear he was joking.

Re: Warne Tops the list of Signing fee receivers for IPL

Shoaib Malik has been and is a very reliable and handy player. Unfortunately his shortcomings as Captain are eclipsing his abilities. He's not the best Test player we have, but he is certainly better than Yasir Hameed and Faisal Iqbal, so until you have found many better players for Pakistan Test squad who are not getting a chance to play, we can talk about Shoaib's place.

Younis Khan would have been the best Captain for us, and the opportunity WAS given to him many times. Younis' drama shouldn't make us biased against Malik.

I thought Game had good cricketing sense but his campaign to make Akhtar Captain (who can't play the whole series), and his vendetta against Malik is kind of surprising.

Malik is getting paid his worth. Obviously the people whose opinions do count (the ones spending the money) agree. Smoke that!

Re: Warne Tops the list of Signing fee receivers for IPL

Sir Dig a lot, I can give you thousands of examples in the domestic circuit, who IF given the chance, would do much better than Malik at the test stage (and they have better techniques too, hardly a surprise). Sadly, Malik is the dummy yes-man captain who will just let selectors roll over him and pick the same old crop of crap they have been for the past few years. Malik, ofcourse, wants to stay in the team despite of his limited potential, and thus he will do it at the expense of Pakistani cricket.

Re: Warne Tops the list of Signing fee receivers for IPL

Is this over a period of the year or season?

Re: Warne Tops the list of Signing fee receivers for IPL

Re: Warne Tops the list of Signing fee receivers for IPL

The money in cricket is absolutely pathetic compared to most other sports.
