Warne reignites feud with Ranatunga

Shane Warne has reignited his feud with former Sri Lanka captain Arjuna Ranatunga in his new autobiography.

The Australia leg-spinner, whose book is due to go on sale on Thursday, repeated criticisms he made of Ranatunga just before the 1999 World Cup.

In ``Shane Warne, My autobiography,‘’ he said that many people have wrongly presumed that he did not like Sri Lanka.

``I love the place… There are no problems with Sri Lanka, or the vast majority of Sri Lanka people. My differences are with Arjuna Ranatunga,‘’ he said.

Warne said Ranatunga, who led Sri Lanka to the 1996 World Cup, ``seemed to act in ways which were contrary to the spirit of the game, at times pushing the rules to the limits… It often appeared that if there was a ruse Ranatunga could play to try and get under our skin, he would do it.‘’

Warne, recalling his column in The Times newspaper at the start of the World Cup two years ago, said he had argued that ``Sri Lanka and the game overall would be better off without Ranatunga, and that remains my view.‘’

Did Shane Warne not said something bad about Sri Lanka and questioned the origin of country that made Rana Tunga reply that he should question his own origin.

First of all, isn't Ranatunga history now? I mean, what is he doing now? Is he playing?

Secondly, feuds amongst the players, on and off the field, are nothing new. Admittedly, Shane Warne had more than a fair share of such phaddas. Its his nature. And Ranatunga just shot back in the same vein.

We all know that auto-biographies are not renowned for being page-turners. So the publishers want the writers to put in spicy, controversial topics there to boost up the pre-hype and consequently the sales of the book. And the writers will generally oblige bcz they get a share of the pie in the form of royalties. I don't begrudge Shane for bringing up his old feuds in this book to pique the appetite of the public. He just wants to sell more and more of his darned book. Thats all :)
