Read in Shaikh Ayaz book that once he asked a Pathan driver ’ Khushaal Khan Khattak ko jante ho?’ he said ‘nahin saab. pata nai kon hai kahan rehta hai’?
He is of the view that the situation in Punjab for Waris Shah is same as against the situation with Shah Lateef, whose poetry is deep rooted in Sindhi society and every person is aware of the message to the extent of his / her exposure. We see many illiterate people quoting poems or part of poems of Shah Lateef in their routine conversation.
Is this observation for Waris Shah correct? What are the reasons behind this?
^ a few years back I believe the situation in villages was not too bad, am not sure now. The cities are losing things, maybe we cannot really stop that as they are the after affects of globalisation. One thing is for sure some interest should be given by the government on the revival of punjabi language and literature.

agree that globalisation has affected things and government should take steps to introduce literature. Whats governmnet of Punjab doing in promoting poets like Waris Shah. I heard Shahbaz Shareed quoting Habib Jalib, but not Baba Bulleh Shah or Waris Shah.
Apart from these things, whats this notion of promoting Iqbal's Shaheen instead of promoting selfless person of sufi poetry? Do you think, governments do not promote sufi poetry, because they don't convey messages of destroying idols.. instead they emphasise on harmony between people regardless of their faiths
literature and language always flourish during supporting condition like peace and economical development....
american culture and language is influencing people from all parts of the world as there is peaceful society and economical conditions are great
ninja may be this is not true for all cultures. World's best literature was written during World Wars. In sub-continent, many classic short stories, etc relate to partition.
yes but flourished when MAharani sahiba was ruling india peaceful.....:)
I think in times of war and turmoil, propaganda literature flourish and the old literature which fulfills that propaganda. Read posts in PA/WA, people quote Iqbal's ashar for but shikni to prove Muslims are intolerant, but they never quote Bulleh Shah, Waris Shah from the very same land conveying pure tolerance.

literature can be written any time but it gains popularity more during peaceful time....:)
