Wardrobes ..

How do you organize your wardrobe? do you use all the Ikea style fancy storage boxes and rails and drawers in the wardrobe or just a few shelves and mostly clothes on hangers ?

Do you have seperate sections for shirts /trousers /casuals /socks etc or do you just put them where ever you can find space in the robe:hmmm:

Re: Wardrobes ..

I have very little closet space so I *have *to organize it otherwise there wont be enough space.

Don't have place for boxes etc but I do have some space saving hangers. UG's type of stuff goes into drawers. As for separation of clothes there is not physical separation but sort of mental one, like I know which corner do the tshirts lie and which corner is for formal shirts etc and I keep it like that.

Can't wait to have a nice walk-in closet one day i'A.

Re: Wardrobes ..

I LOVE keeping my wardrobes organised (but that probably won’t surprise you :p)

I have categories in the ‘hanging garments’ section i.e desi clothes (divided into heavy formal/ smart casual/casual) and western clothes divided into ‘work wear’ i.e suits and formal work attire and ‘non work clothes’. I keep coats in the wardrobe type cupboard that I have had made for my hallway where I also keep shoes that are worn day to day, umbrellas, gloves and scarves.

I have a different shelf for each of the following category: knitwear, jeans (I don’t hang these up as I have around 17 pairs and I think the weight would put a lot of pressure on the hanging rail), shawls (always have far too many of these for some reason), shalwar kameezes that I don’t like enough to keep on hangers but are too new/nice to just throw out plus any garments that can’t be hung for whatever reason. Bottom shelf of one wardrobe has a safe - before anyone considers breaking in, I only keep passports and other equally boring stuff in there.

Drawers - I have separate drawers for underwear, and in some drawers I use those canvas drawer boxes from Ikea to separate the different types, as I don’t have a whole drawers worth of socks or bras but would faint if I had to just throw them into a drawer all mixed up :stuck_out_tongue:

The top shelves of all my wardrobes house my handbag collection

For my husbands clothing - most is on hangers i.e shirts and trousers and any shalwar kameezes. Knitwear and casual t-shirts go on separate shelves (folded up using the template shirt folder that my friend bought me as a joke :hehe:) Underwear in drawers using dividers. Another drawer with dividers has belts and ties. I don’t like hanging them up as they always slide off and I’d rather use the hanging space for something that is used more often .

Shoes I keep in clear boxes stacked up at the side of the wardrobe. I have a tiny space at one side of my wardrobe where it couldn’t be built up to the wall and it’s exactly the width of the shoe boxes which is perfect as you can’t see them tucked away.

Re: Wardrobes ..

I have to have a super organised wardrobe - makes it so much easier to find stuff.

I have 2 floor to ceiling wardrobe sections. One has all my shalwar kameez etc folded into either clear bags, cotton cloths, or storage boxes depending on how formal they are and how delicate. In this wardrobe I also have a drawer for my sleepwear, and a drawer for my underwear/socks etc (these go into the canvas Ikea boxes)

My other wardrobe is just western wear. I hang jeans, trousers, jumpers, cardigans and shirts and use colour coded hangers i.e. Jeans on pink hangers, work trousers on beige, cardigans on blue etc etc. And then within those segments they're by colour so blacks together, greys together and so forth.

T-shirts get folded - long sleeved in a seperate canvas box to the short sleeved. Then evening tops/dresses and any skirts etc (as they are less frequently worn), are folded with tissue paper seperating them and placed ina drawer. We have a seperate closet for coats/suits. Shoes go into clear zip lock bags (i got them from ebay), and then placed in stackable crates as follows: everyday flats, work heels, evening heels (western), evening heels (eastern), evening flats, trainers etc. They're stored under the stairs.

That's broadly how I do it. But I love having colour coded hangers, as sometimes I'm looking for something but if the hanger is empty I know its in the wash.

Re: Wardrobes ..

Wow … so many organized people around … I feel lonely :asa:

God , I cant keep anything organized for the life of me :frowning: … this time i am thinking of buying those little storage boxes from ikea , hoping they might help me keep the robe clean …lets see if that works :bummer:

I am not a super organized lady and I have a small closet. Here is what I did, I bought some boxes from Target and stacked them. The important ones go on top like I need my scarves on daily basis so its really important. After them ligere in one ox under wears, in one box other personal stuff. And then what I did I hanged all my shirts of shalwar qameez and I ironed all duppattas and put them in one box and ironed all shalwars and put them in another box.So now life is little easy now I don't have to find everything.:)

Re: Wardrobes ..

my closet itself is pretty organized, its a walk in with double rods along the back wall, I have dressers to the left and right. shirts, suits, ties, jackets, trousers are all on hangers. the dressers are three rows and drawers are divided, the top two rows have glass fronts so I can see the folded clothes in there without opening the drawers, the dressers have have polos, tshirts and shorts. socks plus gym clothes go in bottom drawers. in winter the shorts and tshirts and polos get swapped for sweaters. the top of the dressers have trays for watches, cufflinks, sunglasses, etc. above them are shelves which have boxes for occassional stuff, desi clothes etc.

hanging sections are suits, sportcoats, dressy trousers, casual traousers and jeans in that order on bottom row. top row is shirts, from very formal to business casual to casual in that order and from dark to light.

my issue is that I have filing boxes of documents picture boxes and some other assorted storage stuff that really should not be in my closet.

I keep my shoes downstairs in a closet by the garage entrance. after i get these boxes out I may bring them up but they work better downstairs.

I feel having it organized keeps me sane. when I am busy and start mixing things, throwing stuff at the floor after changing it just throws my routine off

Re: Wardrobes ..

Oooh yes!

Will have to figure out how to upload from an iphone tonight.

Also meant to say, those boxes that you want to get from Ikea - they are good but just remember that they're only helpful if you actually use them to store things in correctly. I just wasted nearly an entire weekend helping a fried declutter and organize her wardrobe, it was beautiful once it had all been finished and last night I went round to find that it is pretty much back to it's former state as the friend doesn't put everything back into the properly designated storage space.

I would be more mad about it if I hadn't enjoyed doing it :D

Re: Wardrobes ..
