Waqar Younis resigned only a day after Shahid Afridi stepped down as the T20 captain has resigned as Pakistan’s coach three months before his contract was going to end, and only one day after Shahid Afridi stepped down as the T20 captain.

The two resignations came after Pakistan’s disappointing performances in the Asia Cup in Bangladesh and the World T20 in India. Pakistan won only three games out of the eight they played across the two tournaments and failed to make it beyond the first round.

re: Waqar Younis steps down as Pakistan coach/ selection cttee dissolved

I would say one thing, forget everything.....but waqar is 200% right that how the hell his super confidential report got leaked from PCB? this is a crime of un-imaginable proportion and sheryar khan and najam ssethi shd be fired for this crime alone. how pathetic PCB is?

re: Waqar Younis steps down as Pakistan coach/ selection cttee dissolved

I do remember WC 2003 when he refused to leave captaincy. Anyways, this resignation is welcome, hope the destruction he has caused in youngsters can be reversed.

re: Waqar Younis steps down as Pakistan coach/ selection cttee dissolved

Good riddance. Those who cant yeild results must go.

Wasim Akram is the candidate for his replacement and lobbying hard for it. But it'll be like a change in faces only. Rather may be worse.

re: Waqar Younis steps down as Pakistan coach/ selection cttee dissolved

No, I diagree Sid with all due disrespct. Wasim akram was far more strategic than waqar in the ground as skipper.

yes, we have fundamental structural issues with our cricket but those issues are not going to be solved overnight. in the mean time, we can at least have coach and skipper who are in alignment, who can choose best available team based on the pitch conditions, who can strategiz against opponents based on their weaknesses

so yes, we shd give wasim a chance. actually bring a hard core gora but which gora will come into this **** show. so give wasim a chance

re: Waqar Younis steps down as Pakistan coach/ selection cttee dissolved

Wasim Akram's character first became dubious when in 1999 WC, Bangladesh defeated Pakistan for the first time making the history. In the same worldcup Pakistan reached finals. And at Lords he won the toss and elected to bad under extremely adverse conditions for batting. As a result Pakistan got huge embarassment when they got out for 132. And then his name appeared on Justice Qayyum commission report as one of the guilty persons with recommendation to keep him out of team alongwith his brother's proven track of being a bookie. Infact ICC wanted him out as well but they were depending upon PCB's enquiry. That time officials of PCB decided wut they are doing with Afridi now. i.e. Just take the captaincy away and let him play and he was declared as one of the "necessities" of team.

Dont want to learn from past? Thats fine. Make him coach and i can assure you Pakistan will win some matches but will lose those where it would be considered as favorite. Thats where real money is made :)

Re: Waqar Younis steps down as Pakistan coach/ selection cttee dissolved

I think top brass of PCB should know cricket, they are either diplomat or journalist. Previously, Tauqeer Zia headed it but he was not a professional cricketer.

Re: Waqar Younis steps down as Pakistan coach/ selection cttee dissolved

Not sure waseem can be effective but our team need danda like he used to use. You know punjabi stuff :D. Astaghfirullah
Also pcb should strictly define responsibilities for every designation. Nothing will improve as long as politics, leg pulling, disobeying coach attitude is there. But authorities at pcb themselves are incompetent as waqar suggested.
I remember ravi shastri's strong reply on rumors of conflict between kohli and dhoni.

Re: Waqar Younis steps down as Pakistan coach/ selection cttee dissolved

Duniya TV has reported Ramiz Raja and Waseem Akram are given responsibility to make decisions for PCB

Re: Waqar Younis steps down as Pakistan coach/ selection cttee dissolved

Wasim Akram alongwith every single person in 1999/fixing-scandal should be kept away from the team/selection/coaching.

Re: Waqar Younis steps down as Pakistan coach/ selection cttee dissolved

Please keep Wasim Akram well away from the PCB. Hiring him as strictly on field consultant on short term contract is different from giving him a proper full time job in the PCB.

One thing I fully agreed with Waqar is that do not hire any ex cricketers as they bring far too much of a past baggage and politics with them. Waqar's case was different as he went away, got his coaching qualifications and became lot more grounded, but Wasim, nope, still has a very shady and controversial CV.

It's a myth. The top brass from PCB should be people who have extensive managerial experience in proper organisations because these are administrative posts. It is not a job of PCB's chairman to teach your players how to play cricket or devise game strategies where it becomes important for him to have 'cricket experience'. The job of PCB top man is no different from the CEO of any other company - the job requires vision, day to day management skills, and commitment to short and long term plans.

I rather have a cooperate professional with credible project and people management experience for a PCB job than ex players like Miandad who've been associated with PCB for so long with zero administrative efficiency to their credit.

Majority of your ex players are either metric fail or pass, how can they be eligible for such high level jobs?
