Waqar to play for ABL in Patron’s Trophy

"By our correspondent

KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain and fast bowler Waqar Younis has been given permission by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to play for Allied Bank in the Patron’s Trophy tournament.

The Board on Saturday cleared an application filed by Allied Bank to allow them to replace their players Bilal Asad and Abdul Rauf, who are on duty with the Pakistan A team in India, with Waqar Younis.

"The Board has given us the required permission and Waqar will be playing his first match for us in Rawalpindi from today against KPT,’ ABL skipper Rashid Latif said on Saturday. Ironically while Waqar was sacked as captain and player after the World Cup, Rashid replaced him as captain immediately after the World Cup before stepping down himself in September after the home series against Bangladesh.

Rashid said that the bank had initially signed on Waqar on a contract for six months but if he wanted this arrangement would be permanent.

Waqar remains Pakistan’s second highest wicket-taker after Wasim Akram with 376 Test and 416 one-day wickets and only returned after playing Grade cricket in Sydney, Australia earlier this week.

The 32-year old has made it clear that he has no intentions of retiring as an international cricketer and was playing in the Patron’s Trophy to prove his form and fitness to the national selectors.

hmmm. May be, just may be, we still need Waqar. May be, he ACTUALLY IS 32, as he says.

  • yeah he is 32 matey above me born on november 1971 in vihari (punjab) so believe it he ain’t lying… ofcourse we need the quality of waq’ bhaijaan he is a awesome bowler still able to take wickets on a regular basis which sami struggles to do for example…

come on waq’ bhai i’m with you u will fly back into this side no probs’ most likely the test side…we need him looking @ how our bowlers bowled in the recent test letting the kiwi’s rank up 563 when @ one stage they were @ 295 / 6 i believe, waq’ can finish the tail which sami couldn’t do i hate sami  he gets on my nerves he never takes regular wickets its always once in a while with crappy sami just pace and no line ‘n’ length and over stepping and no balls!! blah blah blah… whilst shabbir on the other hand is bowling better than him and gul @ the mo’, he is hitting the deck hard and making the ball deviate… also if shoaib-e-babi isn’t playing our bowling looks so weak if thats not the case on paper… waq’ bhai zindbad waq’ bhai paindabad * :dhimpak:

:flower1: waqar’s 1st game back turns into a win for allied bank :flower1:](http://live.cricinfo.com/db//ARCHIVE/2003-04/PAK_LOCAL/PT-CUP/SCORECARDS/POOL-B/ABL_KARACHI-PT_PT-CUP_21DEC2003.html)

Well the fact that Shabbir Ahmed has just started playing test cricket and his only regular opponents have been Bangladesh.

So far he has played 3 against BD, 1 against SAF, 1 against NZL.

If I am correct Sami has played Australia, South Africa in South Africa, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka.

today sami took 5 wickets vs nzl :k:

Can we stick to the topic please and not discuss Sami V Shabbir.

ooooppppssssssss, sorry ehsan bhai:blush:

Tahir Mughal takes six for Allied Bank

By our correspondent

KARACHI: Although they had former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis operating with the new ball for them, it was his partner Tahir Mughal who stole the day’s honours, as Allied Bank bowled out Karachi Port Trust (KPT) for 225 runs in their first innings, just before the draw of stumps on the opening day of their four-day, second-round, Pool B Patron’s Trophy Cricket Championship match, at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on Monday.

The 26-year-old from Daska near Sialkot, who took 5-108 in Habib Bank’s only innings of Allied Bank’s drawn match at the Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) Stadium in Rawalpindi last week, bagged six wickets for 54 runs in 29.1 overs yesterday while Waqar, playing in his first season in Allied Bank colours, took two for 54 in 19 overs.

The match was also significant for the return of another former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif, who is Allied Bank’s regular skipper. Earlier in the day, he won the toss and asked KPT to bat first. Although opener Aariz Kamal (23) and captain Maisam Hasnain (33) batted with some responsibility, KPT slid to 99 for six wickets. Then came a seventh-wicket stand of 73 runs.

The left-handed Rashid Hanif, a younger brother of Allied Bank’s Aamer Hanif, and wicket-keeper Farhan Iqbal both defied the opposition’s bowlers but both narrowly failed to register individual fifties. Rashid made 49 off 88 balls in just short of two hours with six fours and a six while Farhan’s 48 was scored off 105 deliveries in 159 minutes with seven boundaries.

Thanks to youngster Adeel Malik, KPT took their eventual score to 225 before being all out. The medium-pacer from Karachi, who turns 18 today (Tuesday), hit an unbeaten 22 off 33 balls in 47 minutes while sending the ball to the boundary on two occasions.

Bowling: Waqar Younis 19-3-54-2; Tahir Mughal 29.1-10-54-6; Tanvir Mughal 18-3-62-1 (3nb, 2w); Arshad Khan 14-2-29-1; Manzoor Akhtar 2-1-11-0

Why is Tahir Mughal not being given a chance? He’s got such a wonderful domestic record:

thats ijaz ahmed junior

Shabbir Ahmed is good in tests:k:

Ehsan and some other people who know me, Aren’t u guys surprise that there is a thread about Waqar and i have said anything.

after seeing shabir since the Bangladash series and more so after the third test against SA, I think its time to move on and get over Waqar(Yep I am saying this, i who would ruther watch Waqar running in, in a drawn test match against Bdash than watch afridi score 100 of 23 balls) Shabir is young he is definately going to get better with time. And he going to serve Pakistan fr atleast next five years. Its for the best interest of PAKISTAN CRICKET.

In the past we have been emotional with senior player and let them play and those decisions have brought pakistan down from where it was 1994. Now we cant afford to do the same :jhanda:
