Musharraf also became animated when he spoke about the case of Mukhtar Mai, a 33-year-old illiterate woman who spoke publicly about having been gang-raped on the orders of village council in 2002. Mai, bucking taboos, won public sympathy and government support after she demanded that the men be charged and convicted. But earlier this year Musharraf earned the ire of the Bush administration when he blocked her from traveling to the United States to publicize the case.
Musharraf said that Mai was free to travel now – though she has never left Pakistan – and that he had no regrets about how he handled the incident. He said Mai had come under the sway of organizations determined to harm Pakistan’s image and he did not think Pakistan “should be singled out when the curse is everywhere in the world.” He noted he had seen reports or figures about rape in the United States, Canada, France and Britain showing that “it is happening everywhere.”
“You must understand the environment in Pakistan,” Musharraf added. “This has become a moneymaking concern. A lot of people say if you want to go abroad and get a visa for Canada or citizenship and be a millionaire, get yourself raped.”

I guess the above quote by Musharraf applies to BOTH men AND women
This whole shazia and mai episode has really gotten to Mushy..he has started trashing the same NGO's who used to ally with him when he had nobody on his side.
There was a Pakistani guy who climbed up the wheel of an airplane and hid inside the wheel compartment before take off. That particular flight was heading U.K. Now if I were to say "Man, these days people have to hide in wheel compartments of airplanes to enter U.K!!" would it mean that people ACTUALLY have to hide inside the wheel compartments of an airplane? NO!! certainly not I am being sarcastic and so was Musharraf when he said "**A lot of people say if you want to go abroad and get a visa for Canada or citizenship and be a millionaire, get yourself raped". **Thats making a mountain outta mole hill. Silly isnt it?
Cpt1- Don't compare US to Pak. There is much more accountability than in Pak
Sugarfree-You are not comparing like for like, as the President(forced by gun) he must not talk to a newspaper like you and I would talk on the street. This shows his thinking about the common people while he lives in his palace.
There are things you wanna say, but there is a better way to say it. And then there are things you better not say to the media, and if you have this irresistable urge to say them anyway, you say it in your bathroom, in front of the mirror and get catharsis.
