Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

As a matter of fact, after spending around a decade in europe, we moved to Pakistan with our 4 kids, some 5 years ago. It was June 2008 and at that time suicide bombings and all that was at its peak.
We chose to settle in Islamabad and alhamdulillah the experience has been fine so far. My eldest was 9 years old back then n youngest was hardly 6 months old :) they have adjusted pretty well, mashaAllah. Once I got annoyed over some issues and said to my children, I think we should go back to Europe... N I was surprised that my eldest refused. Lol...
My hubby is still in Europe...but we are trying to make him settle with us eventually. I for one won't be moving to any other country now.... At least I don't wish to.
Yes the picture isn't all that rosy, loadshedding of power n gas are some serious issues. Besides Islamabad is quite expensive... Security situation isn't all that bad however, yes our windows were shattered due to a powerful bomb blast once, but that's it.
I was used to right hand drive in EU n here it's left hand but since we briefly moved to UK before finally coming to Pakistan, I adjusted to it easily. And traffic in isloo is much better and well behaved compared to other cities. I've taken my kids to other cities by car n I'm quite comfy driving around.
Each family has its own dynamics and everyone understands what suits them better. I won't advocate any decision but would like to let you know, there are some nice experiences too, after all. :)

Re: Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

I think it alot depends on your financial condition, I know many tons of guys who are married to goriyaan and they are living in Pakistan.Lets just say, if you can afford to reside in some upscale area (Defence, Garden Town, Muslim Town, Tech etc)there is not going to be any huge difficulty, becasue mostly people living there have been out of Pakistan and have seen different lifestyles & if you can afford to live in (Model Town, Cavalry) then there should not be any difficulty because their lifestyle is way better thn Goras or Arabs.

Re: Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

I know of a family, all their kids are Canadian born, who moved to Karachi about 5-6 years ago. Their eldest at that time was in grade 7. The kids adjusted to the life there. Husband lives in Canada and sends the money and visits his family 2-3 times a year. They live in one of the poshest areas of Karachi. I have spoken to their kids and they love every minute of it. They have decided that they will move back to Canada only when their oldest is ready to go to university.

Another family I know who actually sent their daughter to Karachi to study medicine.

So it's possible to still live in Pakistan. And Islamabad is relatively safer than Karachi.

Re: Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

Yeah some people have done that. Their kids enjoy their lives much more than living abroad. Especially Islamabad, which is a suitable especially foreigners.

Re: Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

Some liberals might not like Pakistan because they can't dress how they want publicly or hold hands with their zani boyfriend/girlfriend and the sound of the adhan 5x a day burns their ears.

Re: Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

Did any of you eventually move? We’re in the same boat. Planning to move to isb from uk.
