Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

Re: Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

Not a good time to come for a person raised in the U.S. and never been to Pakistan.

The first thing you will notice upon arrival at airport is sad faces with no smiles. The whole country is smile-less.

If you are looking for Islamic values, then settle in Malaysia, Indonesia, Middle East or Thailand. Happy people, honest and land of Smiles.

Re: Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

Why did everyone want to be their friend? Because they had awesome personalities ?!:smack:
People will want to be their friends because they will be seen as an elite group , kids who have lived abroad, traveled..I’m pretty sure in a couple of years u’ll have aunties surrounding ur family for rishtas too.
Point being :The kids wont be liked for who they are.
If that is even important at all..

Re: Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

The kids, especially if they're not in their teens yet will adjust just fine. Yeah it won't be easy, but when is it easy to raise kids.
The real problem is you adjusting to how things work over here, the government systems. Things often aren't very obvious, you have to bribe, beg and flatter to get something done. Besides, with your foreign accents you'd stick out like a sore thumb.

It's possible that your husbands employer understands the difficulities a foreigner would face and they have people in place to help him adjust. The key to moving here and not having any problems is proper research, don't hurry, don't make an emotional decision. Research the place where you'll be living and then make a decision.

Re: Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

.............. I have a lot of thinking to do!

Re: Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

Agree..

This isn't a minor change your kids will have to adjust to if they're older (secondary school age or higher).. They could well end up wanting to return to the US/UK/Europe as soon as they can (and easy enough if they hold western passports) so taking them back to their roots may well backfire.. If you're dead set to move then maybe a 3-month trial or something but it'll be far from easy.. Most who speak the language fluently and have family support and a well-paid job seem to **still **end up coming back after giving it a go..

Re: Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

true that. not to mention that this culture puts special empahsis on being as malancholic as possible. someone making a joke is always considered a joker in a derogatory way, as if making someone smile is a bad thing to do.

Re: Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

And she should be careful. In Pakistan, jealousy is too much. They do spell casting a lot. I know a lady who lived in U.S. The family was very happy. She visited Lahore to attend a wedding. When she went back, things started changing....her relationship with husband deteriorated, kids grade dropped in school, finances blocked...all this in about 1 year. The reason came out that some jealous relative mixed a bad thing in her food (sorcery)....On a verge of collapsed relationship with husband, she went to mosques, chruches for illaj. no cure. then her mother paid some woman in Pakistan who used to remove evil attachments....she again came to Pakistan without telling anyone, rented a separate house. Stayed with mother and got cured....now living with same happiness back in U.S.

What the relatives do is....go to spell caster (wizard) and get some nasty hindu voodoo stuff from him....invite u at dinner. mix in food....and there YOU GO.

Never eat anything from anyone in Pakistan until he/she eats same thing in front of you.

Re: Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

^^ Spell casting is nothing but Big Business. It's quite shocking to know that even educated people still believe in that rubbish from peers, fakeers and sorcerers.

Re: Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

Bhai, Jadoo is not rubbish. Those who are victims know how cruel it is. An educated person like you doesn't believe in it is quite strange! It destroy's families.

Please study Pagans, witches, voodoo, etc....

Re: Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

You can keep in touch with your roots by visiting Pakistan every summer or spring holiday , you can buy a house if possible in which you can stay during your visits. Then when your children graduate from high school they can decide whether they want to live in Pakistan or not, they can even study at uni there if they want to .

Re: Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

The concept of voodoo magic exists in Pakistan?
Is it a common practice?

Re: Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

I can't believe what I'm reading. Pagans, Witches and Vodoo? Are you being serious? Jadoo does not destroy families. Their belief in those Peers/Fakeers and their financial contributions to them destroy families.

Unfortunately it is. They don't call it Voodoo, but it's pretty much the same business model.

Re: Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

Umer, jadoo exists and can destory ones life. Read the poetry of Allama Iqbal. Even Quran defines it well. Read the history of Mayans, Egyptians, etc. Those who tried to use satanic powers to achieve divination. Those suffering from black arts know it very well. I was just like you saying that all this is crap, but I have seen a lot and researched on it.

if you have money you can adjust easily. islamabad is expensive city. maybe move for a year or two. not permanently as your kids wont have much future there.

i know many families who moved for few years and than moved back. this way their kids did nt miss out much in their schoolings can could continue back.

last time i went to pak bahira twn, you could see so many foreigners. i wondered how they adjusted.

besides all issues, life is fun in pak. bt since you dnt have family there, u will find little hard.

Re: Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

Re: Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

If I ever move to Pakistan which is a big NO at this time, will move to Lahore, what a great city, FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD is so gooooooooooood.... ISB really sucks..a dead city after dark, not like Lahore.
If OP still read this, please do us a favor and if you moved back even for trial period, update your thoughts.

Re: Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

Islamabad doesn’t suck. You just have to be a little peace/quiet loving to enjoy it :halo:

Re: Want to move to Islamabad - any insights!

Well if you ask me, it's better to listen to your mind. Given the circumstances that's the best decision you can make. Hope things work out for you.
