Hi guys , a friend is going to Pakland soon Inshallah ..
I want some halal gelatine .. we get vegetarian gelatine here in the UK but its expensive .. I was wondering if you guys in Pakistan know where to get halal Gelatine for , what size packet it is and how much it costs ?
Where in Pakistan..??I got some from Alfatah (Lahore). It comes in small boxes (just like the jello boxes) and does not cost a lot.I do not remember the exact price but is not that pricey at all.
I have never used it though...:D

Just make sure that she buys something that is locally made or imported from some muslim country coz in my experience most of the imported stuff at alfatah, HKB hyper star etc etc is not monitored or checked by law for halality ........i once bought a teryaki marinade with wine in it.
CB....Other posters are right.Imported stuff at reputed grocery stores do not check whether it is halal or not.The jello we get here,we do not buy as the gelatin in it is not halal.I have seen the exact same stuff being sold there with signs saysing "IMPORTED FROM USA".I have seen canned baked beans and sauces containing non halal ingredients being sold in Lahore...
Yes the gelatin I am talking about is halal, not animal sourced and a packet is about 1/4th of a cup and as Sara said should be in that price range.
Gelatin made in pakistan is notalways halal. my cousin a chemist used to work in a company which were getting dead animal bones from india to get the gelatin extracted. so the beat way us to look for vegetarian one.
urgh … this is horrile , I never realized that Pakistan just imports stuff from other countries without checking any halal standards for it
Thanks so much for highlighting it guys .. I will be careful ..
Dead animal gelatine …
so has any one seen any leaf gelatine in pakistan? would that also cost me around Rs 50 ?
CB can you buy agar agar in the UK, I think you would be able to find it in East Asian stores and it should not be expensive at all. If you have access to the Gulf market, I used to buy it from there it was imported from New Zealand but it was halal beef (it said on the pack) gelatine.
In Canada I buy gelatine from Pak I am gonna look into agar agar just to have a vegetarian alternative on hand.
