Re: WANT pain free labour? ;{
You should attend antenatal classes and they'll give you all the details on this and also they'll show you a video. Mid-wives in UK highly encourage birth without using any pain relievers.
Re: WANT pain free labour? ;{
nadz .....it's not easy to give birth so please don't expect it to be a painless experience. However I do agree with hareem to take some classes.
Re: WANT pain free labour? ;{
They will make the pain during labor go way, most likely. But if you need stitches or have a c-section, you will probably continue to take painkillers for a few days afterwards.
Re: WANT pain free labour? ;{
I dont wana go classes : Im a chicken, too scared. I have no desire to watch THAT video....and im worried sick as it is. i have all the books though :/ i did go to one, and everyone who was there were with their husbands, and there was me....didnt know i had to take someone.
everyone there were all gorey....gorey hubbies love going i assume, but desi hubbies not so much....i dnt know one single desi man that went willingly..even my husband freaked when i said why dont u come.....he looked like he was the one who had to give birth....
Re: WANT pain free labour? ;{
I'm due in a few weeks insh'allah and am not afraid of the pain at all. 'Scared' of the unknown, sure a little bit but not of the pain.
I've read into stuff, and did not focus on the pain at all during my pregnancy. I just see the whole labour process as 'finally meeting my little angel'. That's where I focus on and all the rest I shall deal with when time is there.
You should realise you are SO lucky to be going through one of the most natural processes in a woman's life.
May Allah swt make it easy for you.

Go. it's important. And take hubby.
Re: WANT pain free labour? ;{
*Science has developed much, YES there are ways. Epidural make it pretty much easy... but before going the whole thing keep in mind that YOU yes you are made for this. Allah has made every women for the same person and keep on reminding yourself that YOU can do it. And keep the thing in the mind that IT IS PAINFUL, dont keep yourself in dreams and make yourself realise that still you can do it! You have energies. *
*When i met my anaesthesist to discuss the option of epidural, she told me the same thing I mentioned above. Had your mother, had mine taken any epidural??? NO. These are the pains for which we would be rewarded, for which our level in Jannah would be raised, inshallah.. *
Keep yourself energetic, recite as much surahs and duas as you can. STILLLLLLLLL if you feel you cant do it, then take epidural. If science is developed that much why not to take advantage of?!
Re: WANT pain free labour? ;{
Take epidural!
You'll scream when the needle goes in but soon after that everything will be fine and dandy.
Oh and do take those classes along with hubby. He was there for baby making, better be there for classes too.
Nadz don’t freak out everything will be fine Inshallah.
And if you get chance do take those classes they help a lot.
Re: WANT pain free labour? ;{
I find it strange that guppans who live in US are pro epidural, do you guys get to told all the side effects by your midwife/doctor/whoever before taking it? Do your doctors encourage taking this? Do they charge for it or is it free?
Re: WANT pain free labour? ;{
nadz
you can go with a friend or relative also, and you can skip the video part but do go, it's very helpful.
Hareem epidurals help a lot thats all I know
But my doctor recommended it and its covered under insurance. I know about the side effects but they rarely happen to ladies so most of them take chances.Whats wrong in taking epidural.
Re: WANT pain free labour? ;{
^Well, the side effects may not happen to everyone but it slows down the birth process. In UK, they give you the options but they don't encourage it.
I used gas&air/entonaux(spelling) and found it quite helpful though it delayed the birth and i got really tired.
Our docs give us choice too but most of ladies end up having an epidural.

But I guess most people here decided to take epidural way before their due date and without considering other options with less side effects.
Re: WANT pain free labour? ;{
It's true, doctors in England strongly discourage the use of epidurals. I have two cousins who had a terrible experience there (not in labor, just arguing about policies) and had to fight and argue with doctors about it.
I'm sure may women who get it would have managed without it, but the side effects are rare, from what I've read.
Talk to your doctor/midwife about your concerns.
nadz :
don't think too much about the pain, I kept asking ppl what contractions felt like and what would the pain feel like and all of that but when the time came I knew that I was having contractions and I bore contractions brought on by pitocin till I was 7cm dilated (the pitocin was increased regularly so that I would have stronger contractions coz I wasn't dilating fast enough). I took them using laughing gas, and by focusing on my breathing plus they tell you of some positions either on the birthing ball or standing or squatting that help you bear contractions.
And to be honest looking back I don't remember that pain, it honestly feels unreal and had I not had witnesses who saw me go through that I would've said that my delivery was painfree. When you see your child for the first time, when you hear his/her cries you really do forget all the pain. Pray to Allah and go with the flow. May Allah give you a healthy baby and bless you with a smooth delivery as well. Aameen
You can always ask for an epidural while in labor when you feel you can't bear the pain anymore or rather make a birth plan and discuss that with your midwife or husband put it in writing. So your support person can tell your doctor what options you would like to go for and at what time. Labour doesn't go according to your birth plan but it helps.
Re: WANT pain free labour? ;{
Nadz, everyone's pain threshold is different. How is yours?
I know mine isn't too high, cuz I couldn't stand those contractions at 6 cms... so I asked them for an epidural. I didn't even feel the needle's pain when they inserted it, I just wanted the contractions to ease up.... Epidural's advantage is that you go totally numb from waist down, you won't feel anything at all.... I even went to sleep and when the time came for me to push, I wasn't tired at all, even after 7-8 hours of being in labor..... so the concern about epidural delaying the birth isn't really a big concern at all. You get some rest and are not tired from bearing all that pain.
I was told to call the nurse if I felt the urge to push and after 7-8 hours, I automatically started getting the urge .... and started feeling the contractions (they were not too painful though). I pushed for like 30 minutes without getting tired, they finally had to do an episiotomy as my daughter's head was too big, and the pain after the epidural wore off was was horrible, cuz of the stitches.... but I took painkillers after that and was good.
Do your research on everything thats available out there, what works for one person may not work for you.... so do attend classes, talk to your OB/GYN and take your husband along for sure, so he can help you during labor. In any case, once you have your baby, you won't even remember the pain after a while :D ..... Good luck :)
Re: WANT pain free labour? ;{
i totally agree with Automne about forgetting the pain when you see your child.
if your husband doesn't want to go with you take your mum and have her with you whn you go into labour.
for my first pregnancy all i had wanted was gas and air nothing more but circumstances were such that i HAD to have an epidural, it sloweed down the labour so where i had dilated 6cm in about 6-7 hours i dilated only 3 cm after that (you need to dilate to 10cm) so i was 9 cm after a further 6 hours of labour once epidural was in.
unfortunatly i had to have a cesarean 1st time.
this time round i used gas and air only and my labour went much faster (2nd labour does do much faster)
when you have an epidural in then you can't get up and walk arouund in labour you have to stay strapped to the bed.
every woman who goes through labour knows yes it can be painful but in the end you have your child in your arms and honestly the hours of pain just feel as if nothing happened.
